There is no clear cut number one contender at 170. Maia, Hendricks, Woodley, and Thompson all have claims. Diaz is 0-3 in his last three bouts and hasn't won a fight since 2011. Diaz and Lawler fought at UFC 47 in 2004 with Diaz winning by TKO.
I'd love it. Fuck records and winning and losing streaks, both of these fighters are probably at the twilight of their careers. It would sell big and most of the fans would love it. Does Nick really deserve a title shot? No. But he's the most polarizing figure in the UFC outside of Conor and Ronda. People love him and want to see him fight. He's always been game to fight the best. Let him do it. He stepped up to fight Anderson Silva at 185 for the UFC. Let this happen, please.
