The west is so much more evenly matched now, espicially with the Jazz and Hornets so much more improved now. Point is, the Lakers have Kobe and they can play defense. Kwame may be a stiff on offense, but he's one of the best low post defenders in the game. I agree, the Lakers not a top 4 team in the west, but since do you have to be a better team to beat someone?</span></span></div>His is where I know you haven't watched the Lakers play much this year. As a team, they are not good at defense, they are actually a terrible defensive team.

But even if a team is ranked 16 on defense and 6 on offense that means they are a good defensive team? Interesting.

Yes, I agree that the Mavericks don't need him to score more than 10 a game. What we are disagreeing about here is HOW he scores. From my understanding, your saying that he is a guy you can go to, to get a tough bucket. Which is ludacris. As for Dampier running...Dampier is actually pretty athletic. In his days with Golden State he was top 5 in blocks every year. The guy can run and jump. Plus he's a pretty solid rebounder. So yes, he does run the floor with Dallas and get buckets that way. This is how he averages his 9 points a game. Running the floor which he can do, and rebounding which he does. Period.</span></span></div>Just because you are smarter than Pacers fan does not mean you are a good poster. You spell ludicrous like him, that's for sure.Anyway, Dampier is not Yao Ming, but he's not Amare, Bosh, or anyone like that. He's not going to beat Jason Terry or Devin Harris down the floor, that's for sure. The Mavericks are not a run-and-gun team. They take good shots now. The Suns today are what the Mavs were three years ago. It's fun; we'll see how the Suns do with it. I don't see what getting blocks have to do with fast break points. He does post up for a few buckets a game. You don't watch the games (especially when we played Seattle, obviously). I disagree with the comment that the suns are like the mavs 3 years ago. The suns are better offensively and defensively than the mavs 3 years ago but where they struggle is rebounding. They are better on offense because they got more of an inside prescence. Should be a great series between the Mavs and Suns. I say whoever wins that will win it all.
I agree. Mavs or Suns will win it all. I'd say the Mavs still have a slight edge. But if the Suns shore up rebounding and nobody decides to crap out then it'll be really close.

Yeah their philosophy is similar but I think the suns style is more suited to the playoffs than the mavs of 3 years ago because of the comments above.

Before odom went out, we were a solid defensive team. Since odom went out, defensively everything has gone wrong. Brian cook and vlad rad have replaced odom and are killing our dWhen healthy, the lakers are an elite offensive team and a solid defensive team. Offensively, the lakers have just been playing the best team ball I've seen from a laker team in a while.
There's one person I'd love to see in Purple and Orange and that's Ray Allen If you look at the Suns' lineup you got Stoudemire and Diaw down on the block, Marion and Allen on the wings and Nash running point. Easily the most balanced starting line-up in the NBA

They have probably the hardest time in the league guarding the pick and roll. It's an offense they constantly get lost on. It's like everyone on their team besides Kobe doesn't know how to properly switch on the pick and roll, and it often times results in easy points against the Lakers. They are also terrible at guarding against penetration. Teams can easily get into the paint on the Lakers and get by them off the dribble. This letting people get by them on the dribble has allowed other teams to get easy shots on the Lakers. Since I know you like to use stats, I will also use stats against you. That poor defense can be evidenced by the fact that teams shoot 46.4% percent on the Lakers this year, while the Lakers give up 101 points per game. That is enough, for 7th worst in the league in percentage allowed, and 8th worst in points per game allowed. At this point in time right now, teams are getting easy shots on the Lakers because of their bad team defense. They have some good individual defenders like Kwame Brown and Kobe Bryant, but as a team they are a poor defensive team. They are definately a bottom ten team in the league when it comes to defense.
