We need what we have needed FOR WEEKS as I have said over and over again...we must add another legit top 6 forward or we have no shot to do anything. It is not complicating. From there I will leave it to you guys to bash the D as we score 0 goals against a team that had been lit up recently, and was 29th in the NHL in GAPG. And now 6 of the last 7 games we have scored 2 or fewer goals in regulation. But please bash the D...who allowed 2 goals today.
And I know chuck, "we're in 2nd place." But is the goal to be in 2nd place or to win a Cup? This team SHOULD be a Cup contender, instead with how they're playing as of late, they're looking like an easy target in the first round. They MUST make moves. Cannot stand pat. Need to trade Stepan, need to trade Yandle if you're unable to get Girardi or Staal to take a trade. Just NEED to move some "core" guys to make this team realize that NO ONE is immune to getting moved. Too many guys on this team are too comfortable.
I don't. You have a PP...trust it to score. I don't like the decision. Anyway...get it going guys. I'll start for you. The O doesn't score again and the D let's up 2 goals...DAMN IT OUR D IS AWFUL. And go...LOL.
We are not a player for the cup unless we add another legit top 6 scorer. Agree 100% 94 and have said that for weeks.
We also still haven't shut out ANYONE since November. This is more than just a bad offense. It's a bad TEAM effort. The offense is very bad, yes. But we are 16th last time I looked at GAA, which also means our defense is pretty shabby too chuck. The ENTIRE team effort, in the ozone, neutral zone, and dzone has been beyond underwhelming this season.
The D still gives up way too many open looks, and i don't see that magically changing. Only 2 goals yeah but tons of shots.
Okay...I am not sure you need to shutout teams to win...but I do know that when you score 2 goals or less game after game it is darn hard to win consistently. Look, and I will be a broken record here again, the D is far from perfect. They have a couple of lapses a game that are unacceptable. BUT we have ZERO margin for error with this O, and with that said there is zero doubt in my mind that the downfall of this team will lie 100% on the shoulders of the O...as it ALWAYS does with the Rangers and has for 4 years now. That's all I can say.
This roster needs a lot more than one player ! If AV is going to the battle with "his guys" this team doesn't make the playoffs. No way Mcd belongs on the PP ahead of Yandle...no way. Mcd is so ridiculously overrated offensively..and it's showing glaringly. That said, management made a concious decision to go with this roster coming into this year because they banked on the D to be big parts of the overall offensive attack of this team. I dont agree with the decision to go with this crap group of forwards but that's what mgt did. They expected Mcd and Yandle to be a huge part of the offense. Mcd has showed what he is... a good, not great dman who is challenged offensively and makes way too many bad reads !
At some point you have to admit it is funny that we continue to have this same debate game after game as the O doesn't score and the other team scores 2 or less at even strength (we all know the PK has been terrible). Tells me something at least. It seems interesting to me that we score ZERO goals against the 29th rated D in the NHL, only allow 2, and the D dominates the conversation. Again...very interesting to me.
And that's where we disagree 94, and frankly I disagree with about 98% of the posters on this board so I'm on an island pretty much. I think we add a legit top 6 forward that can score goals and we'll be a very tough out. My opinion. Again the clear minority opinion on this board. Anyway, you guys go on with the D bashing.... I'm going to watch football. Hope we can end the 1st half with a W against Buffalo tomorrow night.
An occasional shutout would be nice. The only teams with longer non-shutout streaks than us are Columbus, Montreal and Vancouver. And for a team that has always been built on defense first, not having a shutout for that long says that something is amiss on this team, regardless of how bad the offense has been. Think of when was the last time you could remember Hank going over 2 months without a shutout. Bizarre.
Okay...and we still have zero margin for error on D due to the terrible O, and we still have 2 or fewer regulation goals in 6 of 7 games, and we still got shutout by the 29th rated D in the NHL today...and only allowed 2 goals. Is what it is.
The offense has SUCKED for years chuck. But we usually win games 2-1 and 3-1 and 1-0. We can't do that this season because, defensively, we aren't as sound. We are JUST AS BAD OFFENSIVELY as we have been for the past half decade but now we can't rely on the defense and Hank to bail us out. That is the difference between this team and teams of the past. Same putrid offense, but now with a putrid defense as well.
And that's why we grind to everything and why we have lost when we have lost in the playoffs. Score some f'ing goals. I think the clear issue is the O. We don't score. You guys, and not just you 94, think the issue is the D, to the point where even when we lose 2-0 to an awful defensive team, most of the posts are about the D. So I disagree with you guys, not just you 94. All good. 6 of 7 games 2 or fewer in regulation. I think the bigger issue is by far the O. Most of you guys think it is the D. Good debate...what makes message boards fun.
Most of this falls on the mgmt of this organization. It's been run by incompetent morons for years. Now we have another moron GM. Never ends. Thats why this organization does not win any cups.
Said it all year. As far as this team being a cup contender. It sucks. Until Gorton grows balls and shows this coach it's his team, and dumps Glass for starters to send a message, nothing will change.
Only got to see the first half of the game and it was ugly. No worries, though. We're in second place
Correct, our window to win is not very big and we can't just sit here and say "hey, with a little tweak we're legit contenders". We need Gorton to get off his ass and send a shock through the team with a big trade. I want players to be uncomfortable. To think "shit, Gorton just traded X and if i don't get my ass in gear i could be next". Right now the team is too complacent, maybe due to the success we've had the past couple of season, don't know, but it needs to change.
