All of this is true. I think range will come to vonleh. He has a good looking jumper. Not certain on the passing though. A lot of green's assists are from driving and passing back out for open 3's. If vonleh can work on his driving game, perhaps he could develop something like that. He's a work in progress and it'll be fun to see what he turns into, regardless.
I'm hoping Aminu will become that guy. In a recent interview he targeted ball handling and driving the lanes to kick out to a 3 pt shooter as areas he's working on to improve...Vonleh has an offensive game if you remember summer league..he scored from all over the floor..what he needed to learn was to defend starting PFs in the league and credit to him...he's done just that
If Vonleh could ever get to even a David West level on offense with great defense I'd be thrilled. Lotta ground to cover between here and there, but I like the trend.
He still hasn't reached a comfort level yet. When he does, and accommodates a larger role, many fans will think he has "learned to play overnight". As seen from last SL, he can shoot the 3, post up, and defend. Looking forward to him bringing those things to the regular season - it will happen. For now, he's focusing on defense, which is probably appropriate.
Z-Bo is a ball magnet. Crazy under-the-basket offensive moves. Both from day one. I think Noah is somewhat of a ball magnet, but not on Z-Bo's level, and on the latter above trait, Vonleh has no moves (I think he does, but, really, he has lack of confidence to use them).
Gotta give Stotts credit for keeping Noah in the lineup. He was TERRIBLE but showed flashes. Now he is easily the best post defender on the team.
I don't think we've even scratched the surface of Noah's offensive skillset. He's really put in the work on defense which will keep him in games. It'll be awhile before the other shooters trust him enough to run the offense through him. Allan Crabbe didn't get to shoot much his first year or two here either
There are NFL lineman with butts smaller than Zbo's. Zbo also has long arms. Vonleh can't compete with those traits, but he can be strong to compensate. So, he doesn't really remind me of Zbo, but he can be effective.
I think his lower body is as strong as anyone on the roster...he lacks nothin' in lower core strength from everything I've seen..guy is a rock when he gets set
sbnation shows zbo's wingspan at 6'11" with Vonlehs at 7'3". Im also willing to bet Vonleh's ass is every bit as wide and mack truck thick as Zbo's was at 20.
I've been impressed at how easy Noah could get the rim, in this, just his first few handful of games. I think he has a unique ability to 'get to the rim' with his strength and his spin move (amongst others). His problem was that he'd rush the finish. Noah just needs someone like Kaman to show him how to execute patient offensive finishing moves - and some pump fakes. Really enjoying watching the development of Noah!
Agreed we haven't scratched the surface on Vonleh. Z-Bo was buried behind Wallace and other vets on the roster as a rookie. Vonleh, a second-year player, can't hold a candle to Zach's capability to immediately perform at a decent NBA-level ability. Z-Bo came in and forced the issue for minutes, Vonleh's being pushed out there to learn. Vonleh is more athletic and agility, more balance body. Vonleh's offense relies more on receiving dishes and finishing strong one-handed dunks, Z-Bo was more junk-yard style with stats coming from rebounds and put-backs, head up mid-body and up, chicken legs. Vonleh works hard on D, Z-Bo has a "d" in his last name. Vonleh always looks to pass, Z-Bo always looks to shoot. One's quiet, one was talkative. One is from Indy, one is from Michigan. Let's not talk about off-the-court concerns. So really, I see very little comparison. I like Vonleh VERY much, but I'm unclear how similar they really are.
