It was on WEEI, an internet report will probably be released sometime today or tomorrow, I'm guessing. When that happens, add it to the thread. This was sort of expected. Ratliff is basically done as a basketball player. Even if he does return, he'll always miss boat loads of games. But I wish him luck and a nice, steady recovery.
isn't much of a shocker here, I was expecting a report like this to come out sooner or later. So much for that great, veteran defensive presence.....

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>he's probably been responsible a bit for the strides Jeff's made....</div>Maybe...I think assistant coach Clifford Ray has also done a great job working with the big guys.

You have to give a lot of credit to Clifford Ray. All summer long, he worked with Big Al and Perk a ton. Perk, unfortunately, has been hurt all year, but Big Al has clearly made huge strides. Is that all Ray? No, but I feel he has had an enormous impact on him.

ratliff should just retire. the guy is hurt every year and and I think he's only played like one full season. retire please!!!! he's washed up.
I feel for Ratliff. He had such a great career for it to end like this. I hope he can get back and play another year. Never like to see anyone go out like this.

I wouldn't say he had a great career. he was a great shot blocker but he wasn't a great rebounder or scorer.
15th all-time in blocks, 8th in blocks per game. He was never the scorer, which is what people recognize the most, and he never put up bulky rebound numbers. But the fact is that he is one of the best shot blockers of all time, and a very underrated post defender. He wasn't a "great" player, but I definitely consider his career a success and a good one.

I do agree that he is one of the best shot blockers that the game has ever seen.
Alright guys, it has been released on the internet now: http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...e_for_the_year/ <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Celtics center Theo Ratliff stood in the doorway between the trainers' room and the practice court at the Sports Authority Training Center at HealthPoint on Thursday afternoon and told reporters that he's finally decided to have what will likely amount to season-ending surgery to fix the herniated disc in his back. Ratliff, who appeared in just two regular season games this year for the Celtics from November 8-10, hasn't set a date yet for the procedure, but he expects to have it done in the next two weeks. He indicated that it would be six weeks to recover from the surgery before he could resume physical activity, and another six weeks to get back into playing shape, which would make mid-April the earliest conceivable return date. "That'll put you at 12 weeks. You do the math," said Ratliff, who told reporters that he has no prior history with back problems until this season. "It's just something that has to be done. I have the same symptoms going down my legs and I can't really do any type of exercise."</div>
