I need health care insurance too, and my anger is directed at the people in congress and the oval office who pushed this through without taking the time to make something that would actually work. I didn't intend to offend those who are simply following the law in order to get insurance. That said, Obama, Pelosi, Reid and company are responsible for this mucked up mess. I have no doubt that the road to health care hell was paved with good intentions, but that doesn't keep us from being burned by the flames. Maybe next time they should read the bill to know what's in it before they pass it.

Nice. How about the Magspeed Rose-Colored-Glasses Garden? Too long?

And there it is. The classic "let's do something so the other party can't say we're doing nothing" political move. This bill is going to haunt us, and I fear it's going to take a major overhaul like Euro/Canada-style socialized medicine to avoid disaster.

It was a foot in the door. It will likely be amended, rather than scrapped.

So would my father. I'm a fan even if it's a flawed system that doesn't go far enough towards civilized healthcare.

Good riddance Moda needs to withdraw its name from the Rose Garden Marqee as well...alas it probably won't revert back to the Rose Garden as it should..is likely another corporation will buy the naming rights....

Everything is a flawed system. Pros and cons to everything. No use in bitching about it, I say. (not directed at you.)

I've often wished they'd rename The Staples Center "Summer's Eve Douche Garden" but now that Kome is retiring it's just slightly less appropriate.

Also, I do have to admit and agree it could be a lot worse than "MODA Center".

Perhaps the city of Portland should pony up for naming rights. They could call it (gasp) the "Portland Rose Garden"

The ACA was heavily modeled after RomneyCare, written by Republican Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. RomneyCare passed in 2006

True to a degree, but that doesn't change that it was written by the Democrats, passed both houses without a single Republican vote, and signed into law by a Democratic president.

I'm glad that Streuous and many others have benefited from the law. However, because it wasn't well thought out and because of the poorly planned way it was implemented, it's going to collapse and hurt about 10% of the US population when it crashes.

Maybe you are right about that (I don't have a crystal ball...) but I rather doubt it. Collapse is not a typical failure mode of government programs.

Disaster was coming w/o Obamacare, too. Healthcare costs were rising very rapidly, and were projected to keep on rising very rapidly.

I think you are right. Actually fixing the problem will require single payer or some other major change. Obamacare was a good first step, but it certainly can't solve all the problems.

Most government programs are better thought out than Obamacare. This albatross is going to crash and it's going to be ugly. I just hope I make it to Medicare before it goes thud.

Of course, the requirement that people purchase health insurance also passed the Supreme Court.

I can just imagine the outcry if somebody like Cruz were to win the Presidency and the Republicans passed a bill requiring all Americans to purchase a gun in the name of national defense/civil defense. It gets passed in both houses without a single democrat voting for it and signed into law by a Republican president.

Imagine the outcry among democrats if such were to happen. Republicans could just reply "We were following your example". I fear what could happen in the future with Executive Actions as future presidents follow the example of Obama in executing far-reaching executive actions.

Unfortunately, I don't envision the political landscape getting any better anytime soon. The leading candidates for both parties are too partisan for the other side to take.
