Like I said, I never said Gilbert Arenas was going to be the MVP, but he is making a strong case for it.

The off season is a long period of time and it takes about 5-10 minutes to figure out this per person.</div>If you dont care what I think, then why did you respond? But, you are basing that Gilbert is a good defender off of some skewed statistic that you made up? Did you happen to take in to account the backup PG's that he played agaisnt? Or how about the fact that he guards SG's alot of the time? The fact of the matter is, Gilbert isnt a good defender. The wizards team as a whole is one of the worst defensive ball clubs in the league, and Gilbert is no different. Stats can't be taken seriously. Hell, Allen Iverson is always near the top of the league in steals per game. Does that make him a good defender? I didnt think so....
Ballerman, I said "I don't care what you think" meaning I don't care if you believe I did it or not. Gilbert may not be the best defender in the league, but he makes up for it by (in the end), being the leading scorer in the NBA. The Wizards may be a bad defensive ball club as a whole, but one reason they allow so many points is because they score so quickly they are always on defense.

Iverson and Anthony are both ahead of him.EDIT: and how do you know that he will indeed be the leading scorer 'in the end' ?
OMG, did you not see the (in the end) in my statement?!AI and Melo's scoring will go down once they both start playing, and Arenas is right on their heels anyways.

Yeah, I think Gil is right up there with Kobe and Nash in the MVP race. Not only has he been scoring the lights out lately, but he has come up huge for his team in the past 2 weeks or so. He dropped 60 on the Lakers, and what, 11 in the OT to win the game? He scored 57 to end the Suns 14 game winning streak, and he had that crazy game winning shot the other day. He has carried his team, and they are looking really good so far. Might get as high as a 5th, or even 3rd seed. It's possible...
Finally someone that isn't here to bash Arenas. He should be CONSIDERED for it, but I don't think he'll win it because Nash has a better team and they will have a better record. If MVP was like the Heisman, Arenas would be one of the 3 going to the MVP Award Ceremony.
My question is, can Gilbert keep this up?I am pulling for him because I like him and all. But in the end it's going to come down to Kobe and LeBron....
Gilbert scored like this last year, all year, just wasn't noticed. He's averaging 30.3 this year and he finished with 29.3 last year. He can definately keep the scoring up.

Supposedly to everyone in here, Gilbert and LeBron are just as bad at each other on defense, so they can't win the MVP.I'm going to play poker, won't be available to continue debate for a few hours. Will respond to anything posted after this when I get back.

For me the only MVP candidates out there are Kobe Bean and Timmy Duncan...
Yeah, Nash won 2 straight because of his excellent defense The truth is that the judges look at a players offensive skills alot more than their defensive skills.

Gilbert is not bad on D, but I would take LeBron's D over Gilbert's.

LeBron is not a good defender, not even averrage. It's his big weakness...
G. Arenas 35 pts, 12 assists, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 one blocked shot. Somebody here tell me those numbers aren't MVP caliber stats. LeBron is awful on defense. Both him and Gil are awful on defense. LeBron always lets his man go right past him, and Gil tends to go into the passing lanes way too often. Gil probably won't get MVP, despite all the hype he's been getting recently. However, if the Wizards get 50 or more wins, and Gil is still putting up the numbers he is right now, you can bet your sorry ass that Gil's a top 3 MVP candidate.

It's not like defense determines who should be MVP or not. That's why there is an award called Defensive Player of the Year. BCB, Tim Duncan for MVP? Are you kidding me? Dirk and Gilbert are better candidtates IMO.
