I was listening to wheels talk on the radio this morning and he mentioned that dame told quick he didn't want a trade. He wants to run with this group.

This sort of builds on my thought that a trade would most likely kill our momentum and send the wrong message to the team.

I wonder if Neil would step away from the table out of respect to dame.

    Dame's being a leader.

NO should do what he thinks is best. He's earned my trust.

Yeah I get what dame is saying, but let Neil do his job.

If Neil can make a trade that sets us up well and/or improves the roster, why would we want to stand pat?

He says that every year. And we still make moves.

If Dame would have it his way, we'd have Maynor, DWright, Mo Wil, etc etc still on the team. He knows this is futile. Neil considers his opinion, sure, but he most likely will not make final decisions based on what Dame says.

I think we only do a trade if it's an absolute steal.

I could still see a trade happening if something big came along, but neil has to be proud of the group he assembled.

Does he? I don't really remember him coming out and flat saying that he doesn't want a trade.

Paul Allen could not buy the kind of good chemistry this team now has. NO TRADE!

I can dig it. Though I wonder if it's partially about a personal accomplishment - taking this group to the POs when everyone (except us knowledgeable fans!) had them pegged as one of the worst teams in the league. If he does that it's a huge finger to LMA specifically, and the rest of the league/media in general.

As the season progresses more guys are making it onto my "BGD Untouchable List":

    Dame
    CJ
    Harkless
    Crabbe
    Meyers

Obviously I don't want to overpay for Meyers, but I really want these players on the roster next season. If Henderson and Davis are happy with their roles I'd like to keep them, too, but am more open to moving them if an upgrade is available.

But unless a no-brainer presents itself I'm pretty good with us waiting until the off season to make any moves. And we could still absorb a contract while also getting a draft pick - we could just cut the player without them ever coming to PDX.

I know the tide has turned the other way on this one but I still wouldn't be surprised if we moved Henderson. There are guys who can easily pick up his minutes and while I understand he has been great lately I still don't believe he is here next year.

What the fuck does Quick think he'd say? "Yeah, I hope we can trade some of this dead weight for someone who can bring a little toughness to the roster..."

Yeah Neil will make a trade if it helps us in the long run. If he can get a "difference maker" he will not worry what Dame thinks. Because eventually Dame will be fine with it.

The question is will a smaller trade help. Will trading one of our guys who is playing well right now
(i.e Henderson) for a late 1st round pick......help us more in the long run. Personally I don't think you find a player better than Hendo (Who was a late lotto pick) in the late 1st round. But can we keep Gerald? Does Neil want to? That will be the tough decision IMO.

I don't know man.... Hendo's veteran presence makes him extremely valuable. He brings it on defense and he goes hard all the time. It's very difficult to replace that, paired with his exceptional bench production. If he was playing like this all year, he would be in the conversation for 6th man of the year.

And does Henderson even want to come back if he knows he is coming off the bench for sure. I know this is all speculation but a lot of things to think about. If the decision is Gerald or Crabbe (due to possible finances) this summer then the decision is easy in my mind.

What could he say? He could say the same thing that every pro athlete says when they're asked about trades. It's a business, that's not my decision. Blah blah blah. You can't tell me you haven't heard that line before.

If we don't leverage our $$ to at least get a draft pick, then NO will have thrown away an important asset. Our $$ won't likely matter in the offseason - but we'll see.

Don't disagree with the first part at all. I think it is more of does Olshey even think Henderson wants to be here next year. There are rumblings that the man would prefer to start (well who wouldn't?) but the last part is another exaggeration. Crabbe isn't in the conversation for 6th man of the year and he has been doing it all year.

I don't think anyone's questioning Gerald's play. The reality however is that he will most likely be elsewhere next year. Is it worth keeping him knowing that?

After watching last night's game I realized that I'm glad LaMarcus left because he was holding Dame back. Obviously LaMarcus was so talented we would've loved to keep him at the time but I think Dame would've continued to defer to him. This season Dame has been allowed to use the full force of his personality to lead this team and he just keeps improving. I really feel like he's a very special player and I'm really excited to see what he and the team does in the future. I expected this to be a bummer of a season but it has really been so much fun!

And, if we end up in play off position Terry Stotts should be coach of the year. I don't think anyone in the media picked the Blazers to go any higher in the rankings than 29.
