This is about guys in the NBA, who, obviously as the thread title says, get by on purely their athleticness, rather than basketball skill. Guys who are so athletic, and make up for not being as good of a shooter with their athleticness. I know you all know what I mean, so post away. One guy I think of is Nate Robinson. He's really, really little, so that sets him at a disadvantage, but his speed, strength (so good for a little guy) and jumping ability make him so much better. He has a HUGE vertical leap, so that gives him a much better chance at getting his shots off, rather than if he just had a normal vertical. IMO Gerald Wallace is another guy like this. His athleticness allows him to be real pesky on the defensive end, and block a lot of shots and get a lot of steals for a G/F like he is. His jump shot isn't very good, but he can get to the rim and muscle guys to get the ball in. Desmond Mason, obviously. He has barely any jump shot, gets most of his points off of drives and dunks. Obviously people are going to answer LeBron, but I like it when people stay away from the obvious answers, because we know how great he is. We don't need to be reminded of Wade, Kobe, LeBron, etc. in every single thread we make.
Darius Miles..... too early too think of some now but thats a good one along with smush parker as a POINT GUARD..... I question that.
This might upset some Mavs fans/others, but I think one might be Devin Harris. The kid is fast as hell, not a bad ballhandler, either. He misses way too many layups, doesn't get an enormous amount of foul shots. With the speed he has, he could do almost anything he wants... I'm not saying he's a disappointment, but I think with that athleticism, he's getting by.
Mickael Pietrus- He's an extraordinary athlete which makes him a solid scorer and good perimeter defender.Chris Wilcox- Wilcox scores double digit figures solely on athleticism and strength. He has very little offensive moves/talent.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Obviously people are going to answer LeBron, but I like it when people stay away from the obvious answers, because we know how great he is. I don't think either one of those guys get by with pure athleticism. They have talent to go along with being an athletic freak.
Josh Smith.. barely has any jumpshot. All those great dunks and blocked shots come from his athleticsm.
Tyrus Thomas looks as though he doesn't have alot of talent just athleticism. Justice, I don't really wanna argue with a Mavs fan about this but I think Devin Harris has alot of basketball IQ and ability. He was very good at setting charges in the finals and although I guess he does get by on Athleticism on the offensive end I think he's pretty good at defense. I don't agree with Gerald Wallace either, not everyone has a good jumper, doesn't mean they're bad at bball. He's a very good rebounder and defender. Nate Robinson is also definetely an option, he's a fan favorite because of his dunks but he just doesn't really have any basketball talent other than that in my opinion.
Manu Ginobili:this man can do every thing can even finish a3 point play over big players like shaq...hes soo skilled

Actually, Dwight's post moves are not that developed at all. He wouldnt be a very good scorer at all if it wasnt for his athleticism. He gets points off of tip ins, offensive rebounds, dunks, alley oops, etc...His post game is not that great..

I disagree. His post game needs quite a bit of work..It's okay...but he definately wouldnt be scoring 16-17 a game if he didn't have his athleticism...

It's his athleticism that allows him to do everything he does from getting rebounds and scoring on putbacks and lobs. Defense too, he's just not a smart player overall but is pretty good because of his athleticism. Amare did before, so far this year he hasn't had that athleticism as before and has just been smarter. Getting position for rebounds, staying on his man and he has found other ways to score other than posterizing his man. This post could be because I'm sick of Marion missing little 8-foot floaters but it is what it is.
Greg Oden doesn't have much post skill. He'll get by and learn, but as of know, it's mostly athleticism.Throw Saer Sene into the mix.

You probably know alot more about Marion's shot than I do though. But from what I've seen, it is ugly; but it usually is pretty good. And when I've watched Amare, he still doesn't have that post skill, and he has shown me that he still has alot of athleticism in him..And SunnyD, Greg Oden has a very decent post game for a college freshman. Expect him to improve upon that. I think he can become a good post player in the NBA. I also heard that he has a hook shot

Dwight Howards post game is what makes him a great player, it's not his game from 18 feet away, he rarely ever travels that far away from the rim. If he does go that far away, it's only to set a pick or help out if one of his players gets trapped.Furthermore, If you have been watching the Magic lately you would realize that Dwight Howard has been getting much better on the offensive end. The past three or four games have really proved it for me that he is getting much better, and much smarter. Last year, and very early this season he would rely on just pure athleticism to go get rebounds. Now it's like he knows when he isn't going to get a rebound and just puts a body on someone to make sure that the person doesn't get a rebound and lets someone else on his team get a better chance for a rebound. Dwight Howard has also shown a good variety of post moves down low, including some good spin moves and he is starting to get the ability to turn towards the guy and blow by him on the dribble. Dwight Howard has also started shooting a little bit more from 15 feet away, and has made that shot in the past few games. The thing that is making me the happiest, is how much better he is at passing out of double teams. He is finding open people very well, which has lead to ball movement. This has directly influenced Jameer Nelson who has been scoring much better this season. His defense is amazing, it might be helped by his athleticism, but his smarts help him out alot. He knows what side to play on people, he knows where to jump and try block from, and he knows when not to leave his feet. He is becoming more than just a power guy, he is getting much more skilled and better these days. As for that without athleticism they wouldn't be a very good scorer, the same could be said for Chris Bosh. If he wasn't as athletic as he was, he wouldn't score as many points as he does. His ability to move around with that lengthy body helps him gain an advantage over the other big men.
