Of all the reporters Al Horford faced at All-Star weekend player availability on Saturday, no face was friendlier than that of DeMarre Carroll’s.

The two were Atlanta Hawks teammates until last summer, when Carroll’s departure via free agency to the Toronto Raptors began the backslide that hasn’t stopped. But Carroll has been out since having knee surgery in early January, meaning he had plenty of time to be a reporter for a day with the local sports network, TSN, when Horford unexpectedly came to town.

The two reunited in a warm way during Horford’s session, but Carroll’s presence underscored the cold reality facing the Hawks leading up to the Thursday trade deadline: if they don’t trade Horford now, they may lose him for nothing during the summer in free agency.

Just like they did with Carroll.
