Haven't you just described DeAndre Jordan? At least, the Jordan that Olshey first drafted and then re-signed to a (what was then) ridiculously huge contract?

That 24 PER that he dedicates his whole play style into getting? Nah

No. DeAndre has a good attitude and works hard.

He had no skills or basketball IQ, very different problems.

McBob is also guaranteed money into next season. I'd rather just keep Meyers and if he gets a big offer this summer let him walk. He may not get that big of an offer and is worth keeping as the 10th man. Or we get something in a sign and trade. Or he does get overpaid and we let him walk in which case were still better off not having McBobs overpaid contract.

Good article putting Harris in a good light. There are certainly some thing I like about him and a few I don't as well. It all depends on what it would take to get him. His contract seems high but with the new cap, might not be that bad for the next 3 years if he were to really produce.

The article does cast him in a good light, but it seems he is not quick enough to guard SF's and not big enough to effectively guard PF's. The author could be cherry picking a little by showing his interior defense, which might be against smaller guys and giving no statistics on his perimeter defense.

I wouldn't mind getting him then having him work on his explosiveness over the entire summer.

My issue with Whiteside, he's a very good rebounder, yet Miami is a better defense rebounding team when he is off the floor. They're much better offensively, but we're already the #3 offensive rebounding team in the league. We're 8th on defense. I imagine they're better without him on the defense end because of his block attempts. But they also give up a slightly worse Ortg with him out there, so his gambling and shot blocking ultimately isn't helping them as much as generic stats might let on.

I think Whiteside has holes as well but from watching some of their games, the teams seems to make more of an effort to rebound when he is on the bench. When he is in there, it seems they just somewhat default to the premise that he is going to clean up everything.

Any team with a shotblocker has to learn to rotate over to cover for the spot they left. Some do it better than others.

1.4 mil for Plumlee is a steal. I have this fear that Whiteside is another JJ Hickson...

Perhaps but Hickson never put up those types of numbers from a shot-blocking standpoint or the ability to be an actual center.

Yeah Hickson is a good comparison. Big stats in a way that doesn't help the team. Often steal stats from teammates such as uncontested rebounds. If either one had a great attitude they could fill a role as a spark off the bench. As a starter or playing major minutes they cause a lot of challenges for teammates.

Kind of a mystery that he dropped to the SECOND ROUND, then.

That can't have been all his problems. An insane athlete who's 7 feet tall drops to the second round? There were questions about the smaller Andre Drummond and he fell all the way to... mid lottery.

Why do you care about their predraft rankings? Whiteside wasn't a top pick either.

We've learned a lot from how they've played in the league. At this point and NBA career is far more indicative of the player than predraft projections. DeAndre make his teams defense better. He doesn't have the attitude red flags. I'd stay clear of Whiteside. Neil giving DeAndre a contract has zero correlation towards him bringing in that Miami misfit; in my opinion.

I remember when Hickson was on the Blazers though. Almost everyone wanted to keep Aldridge and Hickson together.

Yes, THAT'S MY POINT. They both dropped because they had character red flags. Jordan has turned it around, but Olshey gambled on him before he had. HENCE MY COMPARISON.

Compare Jordan's first two years to Whiteside's. I'm betting Whiteside's look better. Olshey gambled on Jordan, so I don't think we can conclude he wouldn't on Whiteside.

whiteside would go against everything Olshey has said publicly about what he looks for in a player though.

Whitesides first two years he scored a total of 29 points. DeAndre scored 564. Whiteside was drafted 6 years ago. DeAndre had a far better first few years and 5th and 6th year.

I don't see at all how your arguments lend toward Neil wanting to acquire Whiteside.
