http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCAkVvNFk-0Pretty cool stuff. I heard that he had been a very good football player, but I never actually saw video of him playing football before. Pretty cool video. He probably could have had a career in football if he wasn't the basketball player that he is.

I don't really buy that...</div>He was and he loved football more also. The reason that he's playing basketball is because is because he ended up being involved in a brawl at a bowling alley, got tried(sp?) as an adult and dd jail time. His mom ended up having to beg John Thompson to let him play at Georgetown for basketball, and that's why he's playing basketball.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (CB4AllStar @ Jan 6 2007, 11:02 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Would he have been a top 5 NFL player of this era? I don't think so...</div>He could've been. Don't let his size fool you, because if he waqs in the NFL he would've definetly bulked up. So with his toughness, work ethic, versatility, and athleticism I definetly think it could've been possible.
Whatever then lol I don't know what to say. I don't know much more about his HS football career then that. Like I said earlier I don't know if he would've been a top 5 player, but I'd bet money he'd atleast be in the top 10.

Yes, he was a better football player than he is a basketball player. He grew up in the same area as Michael Vick and Aaron Brooks. He was the Virginia State Player of the Year in both football and basketball in the same year, and led his teams to the state championship in both sports that same year. Honestly, why would NFL Films do a whole feature on Allen Iverson's high school football career if he wasn't that good? Michael Vick has gone on record as saying that Iverson was 10x better than Vick.He ended up playing basketball only because schools didn't want him playing two sports... they made him choose one. But then he was involved in that brawl (in which he was innocent, by the way), and then his mom talked to John Thompson about getting Iverson on the Georgetown basketball team... AI was granted clemency by the Virginia governer, got his high school work in order, went to Georgetown, and the rest is history. Also, I don't think he played on the same high school team as McNabb... that is somebody else from the NBA who played with McNabb, I believe.

I remember every time this person played on ESPN they would say that he played on the same high school basketball team as McNabb, but my mind is drawing a blank.

I don't know about that, but Iverson claimed he left the bowling alley when the whole situation happened, so I'm sure his friend had something to do with him leaving. Plus the surveillance tapes from the camera did not show AI there during the brawl, yet he was still convicted since there was a white girl who claimed that he hit her with a chair, and all the other witnesses were white (remember, back then there was still racial tension). But whatever...
