His name's been thrown out there since the Blazers first acquired him. But what does he actually want? I looked at the history of the Hornets teams he had been on; none have been .500 at the allstar break since his rookie season, when they were 26-25 and he averaged 2.6ppg in an irrelevant bit role. So this is the best team he has ever been a part of at the All-star break. The only other winning team he has ever been a part of was two years ago when the team was 23-30 at the All-star break. Those Hornets won a ton of games at the end of the year against a weak East to sneak into the bottom of the playoffs and get swept in the first round. If he gets traded to a contender; they won't have an empty starting spot sitting there waiting for him. He'd probably be in a backup role along with other players who've been there the whole season. The teams with starting spots are franchises such as the Kings which are a mess themselves. I know we aren't a contender; but could Hendo be excited with his current role and the overall performance of the team?
I doubt it. He looks like he's having a good time out there. Could change tho if the Blazers don't make the playoffs.
He got kind of pissed when a reporter asked him that question after a great game we won...He's already out in the community, seems to have settled into a comfort zone...not a bad place to raise kids and enjoy a functional team of guys who like each other. I like Gerald a lot. Mo Williams really loved it here and wanted to stick around but we offered him 1 year less than another team. At Gerald's age a good contract for 3 years would be ideal before he starts the over 30 club offers...we can afford Gerald..and I think he's an important rotation guy who's at the right place and the right time. He might prefer to be a Warrior..who knows?
He wants to be here. He wants to be a starter. He wants to get paid like a starter. He knows some of these things won't happen here. It's a bit of a mess, so we on S2 don't know what to think. When in doubt.... people here reach to the trade machine.
A 3- year contract would take him from 29-32. He might not get much of a contract after that or certainly a very long one so I'm guessing he will either want more years or just a 1 year deal.
Soccer moms never smile though and real soccer kids have scuffed up knees...you got this from a Sears catalog right?
Actually he's only 28 until next Dec...so he'd be 31 or a year older than Lamarcus is now when his contract was up..hell I'd give him 4 years if that's what it took. He'd be Melo's age then or Lebron's
I really like Henderson has the vet on this team. He's the player Arron Afflalo should have been. When Dame needs a rest, the CJ & Hendo combo really keeps the pressure on the opposing team's second unit. If he's fine coming off the bench, I'd look to resign him. Unfortunately we'll see some team like the Mavs or Knicks overpay for his services and watch him walk.
Yes....he'd be basically 32 (31 and 11 months) by the beginning of the next contract and wouldn't likely get a very long deal after that. LA isn't an athletic player, Gerald is and that's the first thing to go.
If I am Gerald I know this next contract is my best chance to cash in. So I am guessing that his # 1 priority will be getting paid as much as he can. If he has similar offers then I bet it comes down to who has the best chance to win. After that...... the city and his teammates. Picking a team that gives him the best chance to start would be stupid, because rosters and depth charts change all the time. I think if Portland wants him and is willing to pay him as much as anyone else then he would re-sign. If not then he's gone. The better question is ......does Neil want to re-sign him? And if so....how high is he willing to go? Maybe he wants to wait and evaluate him, along with Crabbe and Meyers for another 28+ games.
http://www.sportingnews.com/nba-new...vid-lee-kevin-martin-gerald-henderson-hornets I think he has gotten plenty of time but I agree he is probably moved for the right price.
