Just saying, Harkless' TS% is 53.5 (63.4 since he returned to the rotation 5 games ago). Maybe more Hark and less Aminu...

If you think I'm going to disagree with you, you're mistaken.

We could change our team name to the Portland LGBTTIQQ2SA

Good analysis, except for one thing.

    Blazers:
    7th in offense
    18th in defense

Taking out our best defender seems like a bad idea. OTOH, if you start Gay at PF, then hmmmm.

If Harkless could create his own shot at a TS% of 53.5%, I feel like your comparison would be more valid.

Well, it looks like there won't be any big trade for the Blazers. I think Kaman will be traded for a 2nd round pick. If there is no assurance that Henderson will stay, then he will be traded. What about straight up for Darren Collison? The guy has a .475 shooting %, pretty darn good for a point guard and he is .381 from three. Even if Henderson stays i would try to get Collison for Frazier and whoever Sacramento wants of Connaughton, Montero or Alexander, maybe Harkless. The only other guy I was interested in was Oladipo but word is out now he will not be traded.

Patience, my young padawan. Neil is a Jedi, you won't see the sword coming until it does. Lots of time before the deadline still.

How many "shot creators" do we need in the starting lineup? Do we really want a 3 who's going to take the ball out of Dame/CJ's hands? I don't.

I'm just saying, Harkless's TS% of 53% doesn't look good next to Rudy Gay's when you consider he's pretty much being assisted on all of his attempts.

If he is talented enough, yes. For instance, I wouldnt mind Paul George taking the ball out of their hands. Rudy gay is a question mark for me. Is he really that bad?

The more I think about it, the more I keep coming back to Thaddeus Young as the guy I'm hoping Neil is looking at (barring a highly-unlikely blockbuster deal for a star). 27 years old, aggressive scorer but a good defender, would slot in immediately as a starter at the PF spot, and has 3 more years left on his deal at reasonable figures (12/12.9/13.7). If Brooklyn's looking at all to save money (questionable given how they've basically given the finger to the luxury tax so far), trading him would probably be the easiest way to do so.

Absolutely for that as well. Problem is BK not having a GM. Doubt they make any moves at this deadline.

Bad? No. Worth his salary on this team? Doubtful.

Actually, the difference isn't really that great. Gay is being assisted on 58% of his FG this year, with Harkless at 65%.

The more the merrier. They don't all have to do it, and the 2nd and 3rd options should know the pecking order. But when you face great defensive opponents like SA , it's nice to have options.

I think your Pg, SG and your SF should all have the ability to effectively take their man off the dribble.

I guess I am basing my opinion more on the clearer picture about certain guys, than on the lack of action so far. It's now clear the Clippers are wanting too much for a guy (Griffin) who carries too many risks. Atlanta is wanting too much for a guy (Horford) who will be a UFA in a few months, Howard wants too big of a payday coming up for a guy with his weaknesses. And New Jersey apparently doesn't know if they want to trade Brook Lopez or not and they don't have a GM. Now maybe there is some other guy who nobody is even talking about, but it seems doubtful.

And how much of a premium do you want the team paying for that ability, and what other attributes are you willing to sacrifice? Sure, it would be great to have a stud-defender/ball-handler/long-range-bomber/point-forward, but that's not a reality. Given available options, and the skill-sets of our starting backcourt, I'm much more interested in a an athletic slasher/defender than in a shot-creating/ball-hogging sieve, especially at their respective price tags.
