I kinda agree. Just take the hit next year and be done with it. It helps us preserve cap space for the following year, after all the stupid teams spend their stupid money on stupid players who aren't worth it this summer.

@stevekylerNBA: Seems like Orlando and Cavs are sending cash to Portland in Varejão/Frye deal. @EricPincus will need to confirm.

What I'm hearing here is that there's no reason NOT to match any contract offer Meyers receives...:smiley-195517897341

    That's more like it.

No. We'd have to give up 2 future 1sts with that package.

Yeah but the following year it will actually decrease. That will be the years we are trying to contend, not next season.

I have gone back and forth on that. I would match a pretty decent offer on him. I still wouldn't go to MAX though.

I am talking about 2 seasons from now. Not next season.

I think I will leave this to the Blazer Bass cap guys. I have no doubt they have weighed every scenario.

What will his MAX be? I've been against MAX contracts for pretty much everyone except Dame. But I don't actually know what Meyers' MAX is.

So how much cash? It doesn't help the cap but hey, $$$ is $$$.

Why would you want Lebron to leave? If he leaves that team becomes gutted and they will be getting top 5 picks at most 6th-9th picks every year for awhile essentially not allowing us to keep their pick (since its top 10 protected)..

If anything you should want them to still have Lebron and their still solid enough to make the playoffs and be around that 4th-8th seeded range which will be somewhere between the 15th-24th pick in the draft, allowing us to keep the pick..

Too lazy, and on my phone, but with savings because of floor, I think we pay roughly 3-4 million for a 1st round pick. Great deal

That number won't be determined until summer but last year it was Starts at 16.4 and cap is going up about 20% so I expect it to Start at at least 18 MIL first year with up to 7.5 percent raises..

Can we use this cash in addition to the $3 Mil max, or are we stuck with the $3 mil max when/if we buy a 2nd rounder this year.

3M+ max each year (it goes up every year), doesn't matter how much you take in.

It doesn't change the amount we can offer for a pick. It just helps to offset the amount of money POR has to pay Varejo even though they are waiving him. Just a bottom line profit/loss thing that has nothing else to do with the Cap.

So here's a summary of the picks owed to us via CLE:

2018-- their own first round pick (top 10 protected)
2019-- the better of Minny or Lakers' second round picks
2020-- unprotected second round pick from CLE

Last two acquired as compensation for taking on Haywood and Mike Miller. Man, I wish these were first rounders-- could totally be in the position BOS is in now with BK's picks.
