I like our bench as is and they've been productive but I really think Roberts could help out and take pressure off of McCollum. Of course that would mean another wing would lose playing time so it's not happening.

I think the eventual goal is to play both CJ and Dame fewer minutes, some minutes without either of them in the game.

Yup:wink: Some of us already know the benefit that Roberts will bring & for those that don't know him/what he can do, no worries; unless someone watches a lot of basketball from other NBA teams, they're not going to see Roberts/know much about him BUT... soon unfamiliar Blazer fans will come to love this guy:ygrin: Roberts is a steady underrated player that's smart, a great teammate, unselfish, a great character guy, able to fill in admirably as a starter for several game stretches IF need b, & brings u good balance between assists + scoring (opponents must guard him otherwise he can get his own shot). @ minimum, once he's settled in (won't take long) he'll be averaging @ least ~8 points off the bench w/ ~ 4 assists (BUT his importance/impact will b greater vs. these #'s or any other #'s he'll b putting up).:smiley-yippee:

For those unfamiliar with Roberts a good comparison is Patty Mills (the spurs version)

Look, I'm not saying he can't be a very good b/u PG, but I don't know that I see him playing more than 1/3 the game (16mpg), tops. And only 1 person in the last 15 years has scored 8ppg with 4 apg in less than 20 mpg... last year's Dennis Schroeder at 19.7. Increase that to 24mpg, and you add in Ginobili and some of the more well-known backup PGs (Daniels, Augustin, Udrih, Watson).

So while he is probably a significant improvement on Timmy F, and is almost league-average PER on his best day, he barely averages 4 assists per 36...so I don't think he's going to get them in the 16mpg tops he's slated for. But you never know, so here's hoping!

Definitely see what u r saying/coming from; Schroeder is another underrated guy (can't pay so much attention to some of the #'s:wink:); Roberts is something like an Augustin or Udrih. The max minutes I c Roberts averaging would b ~21 (unlikely IMO given it's mostly Dame's & then CJ's minutes we're digging into; he will play more than this in some games though) but I think he'll average ~ 19 minutes (this is enough time to do damage ^). The way he's been mostly used from his former teams/their systems plays a factor too in the #'s he's produced/ can produce; I think w/ Stotts he'll have more opportunities/importance.

You made some good points ^ (he may or may not hit ^ marks but IMO I think he's good enough to do it) but really to me, the #'s aren't as important vs. the impact he has on our team/the game:smiley-yay:

Roberts will not average more than 12 minutes max on this team. He will have a game or two where he does 19 or so minutes but he isn't going to average that.

And with that said I still happy we have him!

In a normal game, I don't see Roberts getting off the bench

A player like Roberts/his age wasn't brought in only to be here in blowout game(s) or solely as injury insurance, Roberts can b a huge benefit to Dame & CJ on the regular to save their bodies for the playoffs & prevent injury/fatigue; this is why I believe NO brought him in.

ps also NO brought him in bc he'll make better decisions @ pg vs. CJ (& obviously play w/ CJ & let CJ be mostly sg & have to make fewer decisions/allowing him to save energies & focus almost solely on scoring).

He's solid insurance at his position..one thing even though it was garbage time last night, he looked composed...great looking shot..protected the ball, made a smooth reverse layup..when's the last time our 3rd string pt guard put up 7 in 4 minutes with 25 minutes of practice time, jet lagged at that? Good acquisition by Neil

He was brought in to get us a 2nd round pick and as insurance.

The point of Roberts game is, if he plays 5 minutes or 25 minutes per game, he is going to make a positive impact, off of the bench.

We are very fortunate to have Roberts. Not only did this trade land us a 2nd round pick; it also upgraded our BUPG position. Something I have been very concerned about. Now let’s see if he is worth re-signing.

I don't think so either. But if Stotts forgets to add CJ or Dame to the roster one night....or if one gets sick, or sprains an ankle......
    Roberts will come in handy.

^ true but what I said is also true. Hasn't it been known for a while now that we badly needed a better B/U pg? If it wasn't Roberts, I'm almost certain it would've been another pg from someone else; Roberts is the perfect fit for us IMO. Yes, MIA wanted to make the move to get them under the cap & we were rewarded handsomely for helping out yet another team.

So you think Roberts is a better backup PG than CJ? And he's not a perfect fit because he's a worse defender than Dame or CJ
