I don't drive in Portland very often but I can't remember ever thinking anything bad about Prius drivers. I think generalizing all people who just happen to own a certain car is pretty stupid though.

Let me rephrase that then: From my observation I've concluded that a high percentage of the worst and most inconsiderate drivers on the road drive a Prius. I'm sure there are good and considerate drivers who drive a Prius who go unnoticed. But for some reason a lot of inconsiderate dildos drive them. In the Corvallis area if someone is going to cut you off, hold you up, or otherwise drive as if they are the only car on the road or the only person who matters, chances are they are driving a Prius. Time after time.

That said, I could totally see myself driving one.

Batteries are in just about everything we use...keyboards, trains, airplanes, the militaries vehicles..clocks, watches...batteries are batteries and I've yet to meet a hybrid owner who needed to scrap a battery....you realize laptops, cell phones and desktop computers also have batteries...now let's compare hybrid cars to all the other daily things we need that utilize the battery..why is battery disposal only now the issue? Rubber tires are piled up all over the planet...if you're going to limit your carbon footprint...don't drive or use modern technology

I actually had a carbon footprint assessment done just for curiosity sake. Our household came out in the top 5% of most eco friendly.

Prius cars are the worst. I absolutely hate driving them. I thought the Civic hybrids were much much better to drive.

    Well there you go. :)

Part of it has to do with horrible blind spots me thinks.

I've never driven a Prius, but I always consider visibility when buying a car.

    That's why I don't drive a Lamborghini.

Didn't read the link, but off top I know for a fact that mining for the nickel, that is needed to make the batteries, causes more pollution than the vehicle will create in its lifetime.

Besides a 2004 Focus with only 112,234 miles (ALL city) is far better than a Lambo! ;)

Plus, a "No Stereo In Car" sign just doesn't look right taped to a Lamborghini.

But the PUS MAG license plate really is questionable on the Focus...

Don't think for a second they are going to stop mining nickel because of Toyota Prius....and you should include all the other applications that use nickel or copper...it's going to be used. I did extensive research when buying mine and for every detractor, there are plenty of supporters. I read an article this morning about most of the Prius hate is not actually the car, but the folks that drive them...sort of the old Asian driver stereotype.

I tried all of them, including the Honda and I couldn't disagree more...my son's college roommate actually sold his Civic hybrid after comparing them...driving a hybrid is different and I think some folks don't quite understand the difference is how you accelerate one. Took me a couple of weeks to get used to it. Now I don't notice. There's also a considerable difference between the low end Prius and the higher end model. I don't care for the low end one much at all....mine is much better made and more comfortable. Vision is great. I also drive a 4 cyclinder truck that's not a hybrid and gets good gas mileage...the Prius is a much better car than my truck.
