As far as Hayes goes, while losing him subtracts a young roster player, it would possibly give them some wiggle room over the summer to try and keep Yandle or maybe go after Eric Staal.
Actually impossible due to the cap...but all good dump. Anyway...said my peace. We'll see what happens. You don't keep a guy like Yandle and then also say yeah but we won't add a clear forward upgrade. The two don't logically mesh. Either go in OR deal UFA to be/gone this summer Yandle. To keep Yandle and not really go in makes no sense to me at all. Illogical really.
That was my point 71. Dealing Hayes in a Staal deal gives us a much better chance of resigning Staal this summer, which would be the 100% focus if we get him.
Darren Dreger tweets that the speculation about Chris Kreider doesn't "add up" and that teams' can ask but it doesn't mean the Rangers will do anything. (Dreger) Dreger adds "I don't see it." (Dreger)
I know people don't want to lose yet another 1st but in this window of 3-4y i think it's worth another #25 pick which is a crapshoot player for a solid piece to make a run.
I would not deal a 1st round pick either. I agree there dump. As for Staal, the Canes have been a bad team for years, and that wears on you. They have been void of talent for a long time. Staal is good for 20 + goals and 60 points every season (23/54 last season in 77 games). Now no doubt this year he has not played near his level, on pace for 13/43. But I believe that is due to being worn down by the continual losing year after year. I will agree though that his next contract will be much smaller. And I think a cap hit in the 5's is fair...tops low 6's. And I also agree I wouldn't go over the top to get him. That is why I said Hayes or Lindberg/a 2nd or 3rd/middle prospect. Sorry but that is not some huge package. No 1st, no top prospect, and a solid roster player, but certainly neither Hayes or Lindberg are big time players...both are solid 3rd line guys. So we agree on a lot of it dump, I just disagree that Staal isn't worth what I mentioned.
Staal is still a very solid player who probably would kick it into gear here on a playoff team. I'm still not really sold on Hayes long term anyhow but who knows.
As I've said before I don't love the situation the Rangers are in w Yandle and trading all those 1st rounders lately. But you have to take another shot when Lundqvist will be 35 before the playoffs next year. Also while trading picks really impacts your prospect depth it's still a crap shoot. How many of us expected Kreider to have 13 goals this year. Not me. You just never know how these guys go. I don't love the idea of losing Lindbergh for Staal but I would do Chucks deal. Lindbergh projects to be a good 3rd line player for the next decade. That's grea but he's not a top end talent. They might even resign Staal. They could also do a trade at the draft before July 1 depending on how the season goes and get Yandle signed. I know it's unlikely but it's not a given he's gone for nothing if they don't win a cup this year. The other reason I like the deal is I think outside of Washington who has a history of finding ways to lose playoff series I dint think the East is that tough. There are lots of good teams but not many better then the Rangers even with all their flaws. I also think Staal would flourish in AV system. But it is a deal w the devil.
That's a great point on the East Dis. To me it is the Caps, and then WIDE OPEN. Beating the Caps would be real tough, especially for us I think since law of averages says they are due to win a series against us. BUT after the Caps the East is not big time. I'd say TB is the next best team, but they don't scare me. They could beat us again, but that would be a coin flip series at least. Right now I think we play the Isles in round one. I think strong chance that happens, only the Pens can really change that I think. So Isles round one and Caps round two if we beat the Isles. Tough road, but with Hank at 34 next week AND since we are apparently keeping Yandle and willing to let him walk for nothing this summer, you have to go in and add a big piece upfront. Makes no sense to do it any other way. IF we added Staal I would prioritize resigning him # 1 by far this summer. Having some good young dmen would make me "okay" with letting Yandle walk, but we would need to do everything in our power to resign Staal if we deal for him...which is why maybe Hayes is the better player to include in that package over Lindberg since he will cost more next season. The flip side is Hayes is the better player today, so that would be counter to going all in...but Hayes v Lindberg isn't a big enough edge for Hayes for me to say cannot deal Hayes must be Lindberg instead. Exciting 27 hours.... This is the best period of the regular season.
Also if we had a healthy Zuc and had Eric Staal last year does anyone not think we would have gone to Finals again? I know the Triplets killed us but they lost to TB in 7 because they got shut out on home ice in G5 and G7. Unacceptable. Hank is nearly 35 and they have to find ways to score in the playoffs. Staal not only can score nice goals but he's big and strong and can score dirty goals too. It's risky he could be in his 31 year old version of Marty St Louis tailspin but I don't think so. I think he's a point per GM guy in the playoffs if he lands in NY
Staal is the perfect fit...I 10000000000% believe that. He is big and strong like you said. He can win face-offs. He is a point per game guy in the playoffs. Outside of this season he is usually a 20 + goal 60 point guy. He is the perfect fit. You give me a healthy Staal, Step, Brass, Nash, Zucc, Miller, Kreider and I'll take my chances against anyone. Hayes or Lindberg AND Stalberg complete the top 9. Then backstop that with Hank in goal and a deep D with McD, Staal, Girardi, Klein, Yandle, Boyle, and McIlrath and that is a legit SC team. The one question I'd have is the 4th line/PK, which is why I'd love to find a way to add a 4th line PK guy as well.
The talks between the Rangers and Carolina are "intensifying" and that a deal could be done by 3PM when Staal is supposed to play. McKenzie adds that there are no guarantees though. (McKenzie) Bob McKenzie reports that Carolina wants a first round pick for Eric Staal but the Rangers are "adamant" about not giving up a first round pick. (McKenzie) He adds "can NYR and CAR find another way to get it done that is palatable to both teams?" I really think it gets done and Staal is a NYR. Would be a huge add.
No doubt, they would be a much better team with E. Staal but I am not sure if he is enough to put them over the top.
The Rangers will not give up Fast unless they are more retarded than usual. He's the best defensive winger they have and he's a 30 point guy now.
dump they have to give up something to get him.... SNY says Staal is out of the Hurricanes lineup so a deal is imminent. BOB MC says a couple of second rounders and a prospect... ill be really surprised if they rangers get the better of the deal, albeit, Staal has the NTC
I'll be surprised if they trade a roster player I see no reason why they cant resign him next year.....we'll Toronto might b a reason because they'll throw huge money at him
