Re: I just don't understand it... How in the MLB if you are even SUPSPECTED of taking performance enhancing drugs, you are hated by the fans. Then in the NFL if you are test POSITIVE for performance enhancing drugs and are penalized everybody just throws it aside and still loves you.Take for example Barry Bonds. 90% of baseball fans dislike him because they think he is a cheater. Then look at Shawn Merriman. Almost every fan either likes him or has nothing against him when in this very season he was suspended for using banned substances. Why is this?I think it is because of two reasons:1) In football you need to be strong to be able to play when in baseball you only need to be strong if you want to be a power hitter.2) The media doesn't take too much care into it. In baseball, they are all over suspicion of using them when in football you might get a little story if you are lucky or just a little note on the bottom line bar.
Re: I just don't understand it... It's mostly because of the media... I will say that much. I think another reason though, is it's just so much more obvious in baseball. I'm not saying it doesn't happen in the NFL. I guess I'm just saying that it is so much easier to connect the dots with baseball players. I dare you to look at a Rafael Palmeiro card from the late 80's/early 90's. Same with Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa or Mark McGwire. The weight that they put on since then is IMMENSE. If it were like, 15 year olds turning into 25 year olds, it would be understandable. But these are full grown adults. Their heads are ballooning in size as well, which is just messed up. It's pretty hard to consider it just suspicion when sh*t like that is happening.
Re: I just don't understand it... I really don't think Shawn Merriman was taking steriods. He said it was from some suppliment or something, sure you can say he's just saying that but I don't think he's stupid enough to take an obvious steriod knowing he's getting tested...Just my opinion. It's pretty much what Justice said, all NFL players are gigantic so having a steriod user in the NFL doesn't come off as bad...or as a guy having a bigger advantage.
Re: I just don't understand it... Most people hate Bonds because of the way he acts, not because of the steroids. A lot of MLB players use performance enhancers and none are even close to the hate that Bonds gets. Also, stats are just more important to the baseball world and when someone cheats to break records it's just a huge deal. I do see where you are coming from though and I don't like how all NFL players get a free pass.
