Reagan speech from 1981 about illegal immigration. http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/?pid=44128 Our nation is a nation of immigrants. More than any other country, our strength comes from our own immigrant heritage and our capacity to welcome those from other lands. No free and prosperous nation can by itself accommodate all those who seek a better life or flee persecution. We must share this responsibility with other countries. The bipartisan select commission which reported this spring concluded that the Cuban influx to Florida made the United States sharply aware of the need for more effective immigration policies and the need for legislation to support those policies. For these reasons, I asked the Attorney General last March to chair a Task Force on Immigration and Refugee Policy. We discussed the matter when President Lopez Portillo visited me last month, and we have carefully considered the views of our Mexican friends. In addition, the Attorney General has consulted with those concerned in Congress and in affected States and localities and with interested members of the public. The Attorney General is undertaking administrative actions and submitting to Congress, on behalf of the administration, a legislative package, based on eight principles. These principles are designed to preserve our tradition of accepting foreigners to our shores, but to accept them in a controlled and orderly fashion: • We shall continue America's tradition as a land that welcomes peoples from other countries. We shall also, with other countries, continue to share in the responsibility of welcoming and resettling those who flee oppression. • At the same time, we must ensure adequate legal authority to establish control over immigration: to enable us, when sudden influxes of foreigners occur, to decide to whom we grant the status of refugee or asylee; to improve our border control; to expedite (consistent with fair procedures and our Constitution) return of those coming here illegally; to strengthen enforcement of our fair labor standards and laws; and to penalize those who would knowingly encourage violation of our laws. The steps we take to further these objectives, however, must also be consistent with our values of individual privacy and freedom. • We have a special relationship with our closest neighbors, Canada and Mexico. Our immigration policy should reflect this relationship. • We must also recognize that both the United States and Mexico have historically benefited from Mexicans obtaining employment in the United States. A number of our States have special labor needs, and we should take these into account. • Illegal immigrants in considerable numbers have become productive members of our society and are a basic part of our work force. Those who have established equities in the United States should be recognized and accorded legal status. At the same time, in so doing, we must not encourage illegal immigration. • We shall strive to distribute fairly, among the various localities of this country, the impacts of our national immigration and refugee policy, and we shall improve the capability of those agencies of the Federal Government which deal with these matters. • We shall seek new ways to integrate refugees into our society without nurturing their dependence on welfare. • Finally, we recognize that immigration and refugee problems require international solutions. We will seek greater international cooperation in the resettlement of refugees and, in the Caribbean Basin, international cooperation to assist accelerated economic development to reduce motivations for illegal immigration. Immigration and refugee policy is an important part of our past and fundamental to our national interest. With the help of the Congress and the American people, we will work towards a new and realistic immigration policy, a policy that will be fair to our own citizens while it opens the door of opportunity for those who seek a new life in America.
Sure you do Denny. You see the Nationalism, you just didn't realize they both push it. You just stopped thinking at the National as is National Socialist. Threw up hand began to wail for the rights of illegals. Reagan screwed this up 30 years ago. He gave us the bull shit of make it alright (amnesty) to be illegal. Al though, to his credit he did it with an act of Congress not has king. It was 1.5 million in exchange for fixing the problem. The fix never came and now we have at least 10 times as many. It is time to fix this and Trump is stepping up. This sort of crap needs to be corrected. http://www.breitbart.com/big-govern...y-37-percent-of-federal-sentences-in-fy-2014/ http://www.fairus.org/issue/criminal-aliens Look! In some Oregon counties, 24% of the people sent to DOC are criminal aliens. Why the hell do we put up with this? Well Trump will fix. http://larslarson.com/david-cross-oregonians-are-significantly-imp
The unemployment rate in Oregon is 5.2%. This number is sort of a joke since many out of work are no longer counted. But this is not a joke, there are enough illegals in Oregon with a job if held by a legal resident, unemployment would be zero and there would be jobs needing applicants. No doubt the wage would need to rise to get some residents to take the jobs, but that is the way it should work. A much preferable process than politician debating the where to set the minimum wage.
Nope. You confuse patriotism with nationalism. na·tion·al·ism ˈnaSH(ə)nəˌlizəm/ noun patriotic feeling, principles, or efforts. synonyms: patriotism, patriotic sentiment, flag-waving, xenophobia, chauvinism, jingoism "their extreme nationalism was frightening" an extreme form of this, especially marked by a feeling of superiority over other countries. plural noun: nationalisms Xenophobia: intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries. Chauvinism: exaggerated or aggressive patriotism. Jingoism: extreme patriotism, especially in the form of aggressive or warlike foreign policy. Not Reagan. Trump.
Likewise, he must be doing some things right if you don't like him. Maybe both of us should vote for him! barfo
Trump is a petulant bully, regardless of whether he's racist or not. Electing him president would be a national disgrace.
You're really reaching. You also sound afraid. You defend the racists that have ACTUALLY lynched by attacking the the group that are protesting the killings? Yeah...
When BLM starts protesting cop killings and calling on EQUAL rights with White people, then I'll start changing my stance. Because again: you'd have to be delusional to ignore what they're saying about white people on social media. I completely believe they'd lynch white people in a minute if they thought they could get away with it. Black Panthers too. Until then, they are just as bad as the KKK. Same shit, different people.
So you refuse to address the issue like an adult, and resort to insults? People like YOU are the reason I'm not a Democrat. I was a Democrat through my teens and 20s. Until I got SO SICK of the racism, PC Nanny Bullshit, and gun control. I said "fuck it, I'm going Republican." I made that choice in my mid 20s, and I've been happier for it. So you wanna act like a child? That's fine. You had your chance. And people like you are the reason I stopped being a Progressive Democrat. Congratulations.
So...what, their talk on social media is just hot air or something? I read this shit and about this shit on almost a daily basis. And this isn't from Fox news or any of that EXCUSE. This is right there on Twitter. Now, I follow 1,200+ people, so sure, something is bound to come up. From one source, I'd dismiss it. But when it's 40 or 50 sources? Sorry, but where there's smoke, there's fire. They advocate violence against white people and police officers. We shouldn't ignore that or tolerate it anymore than we should ignore or tolerate the KKK's racism.
Im not sure what you are talking about. Are you talking about a bunch of racist anti-blm memes from the people you follow on your Twitter feed and facebook wall? And this is what you base your world view on? This is where you get your news?? For fucks sake man. Seriously, talk to real people. Do objective research. If you are getting your "news" from anonymous anti liberal Facebook likes then you are even worse off than listening to Rush Limbaugh. At least his show has commercials to give you a break from the propaganda.
Don't have cable, so I don't watch Limbaugh. And I don't have Facebook, nor have I ever had Facebook. Keep reaching though.
