I can't find the article but when Seattle was raising their minimum wage someone did a breakdown on McDonalds burgers, price/#of burgers sold per hour per (taking into account all sales) employee and the math demonstrated the raise of their minimum wage to $15 was going to raise the price of a burger by less than 14 cents to maintain the identical profit margin, if I remember correctly. I'm not saying prices won't go up, but the benefit to the working poor will be will be greater than hardship to the rest of society.

Yes. Very, very few businesses are simply a set of minimum wage workers and nothing else. Most have other expenses - higher paid workers, raw materials, rent, advertising, utilities, fuel, accountants, etc.

So the cost of products and services does not scale linearly with the minimum wage.

    Correct.

Theres also the fact that during a given hour, a McD's might have 5 employees, But during that hour, they aren't selling one burger, they are likely selling a hundred burgers, a hundred fries and a hundred drinks (I made up these numbers for the sake of the demonstration) so those 5 employees wage increase of $6 * 5 employees = $30 can be divided amongst 300 items which is 10 cents per item.

That does not pass any logic test. Nor does it jibe with this story.

    http://www.seattlemag.com/article/why-are-so-many-seattle-restaurants-closing-lately

Notice the line in the article about the $700,000 restaurant. The owner making 28000 a year. Imagine that! The guy has a business like that and only makes 28K
The dude is paying help 15 buck and he ain't making that much. Now who the hell is going to run a business like that?

"The remaining 4 percent has been the profit margin, and as a result, in a $700,000 restaurant, he estimates that the average restauranteur in Seattle has been making $28,000 a year."

Then I think of my farm growing wheat. When I did it, the price of wheat was about 3 bucks a bushel, now it is 4.63 (I just looked) and fuel is over twice, and fertilizer over twice the price.
No friggin way do you raise that crop paying 15 buck or the 12.75 for any help. You will do it on your own, perhaps family help but hired help is out of the realm of reality.

But maybe I missed it, did the Salem gang raise the commodity price minimums also? Just kidding with a dumb ass question, they don't know what the hell commodity prices are or how they are set.

Damn man! Burgerville is already hugely expensive; you mean I have to pay $13 now for a chicken strips and fries?

I love them so much....they are so good....and those milkshakes.....:wantmommy:

In all seriousness I think, in the long run, that this is going to mean that small businesses stop hiring people, because they just can't afford it. Which may increase the likelihood of those small businesses either going out of business or not expanding.

Doesn't sound good for business, if you ask me.

Mind you, that's just speculation on my part.

If I was in a high value swing state id consider it, till then it's a waste of time. Of course im a bit of a conspiracy nut, so I think the elections are rigged anyway.

You're almost there, just connect the dots. Government needs more money, they need to shut down small business and provide for the people. Think general motors but on a large scale. Now give everyone equal pay, yay for equality. Communism? No we hate that!

It was harder to get off food stamps than get on them. I practically had to beg to get off them. It all comes down to budgeting. That section of the government has a budget, they have to spend it or the budget gets cut. Budgets are why I stopped going to church. Budgets are made up projected numbers and instead of expenditures vs. Income, they show you budget and income. Now if you budget $100, take in $90 but spend $35, you still have a $10 budget shortfall instead of $55 profit. Now go fleece the sheep for that $10. When I realized churches run just like the government in this way I stopped attending. Just like I stopped voting for fraudsters. Im a simple kind of man with simple principles.

    Yeah, Sly. Is this okay...

    Or this....

    Or this....

Like I said: you wanna grow up and act like an adult, and drop the childish vendetta, then you'll be treated like one. Until then, yes, you'll be treated like a child. And there's fuck all you can do about it except block me.

In fact, I insist you do. Rid my internet life of your childish, racist stupidity.

The money we spend on food stamps is a drop in the bucket compared to the money that we give away in oil and farm subsidies.

    there are no oil subsidies.

Let's scrap the farm ones. Those are socialist FDR policy that hastened the demise of the family farm.

I see you've conveniently ignored his bullshit. How nice.

I'm not the one who's following someone around on a fucking forum, making snide comments and one-lined insults like a child. He wants to act like one, he'll be treated like one. He's already proven that he's a racist by obsessing over the issue, refusing to see reason and logic, and by accusing others of being racist because of their political beliefs.

That's not on me, that's on him. And when he grows up and drops his childish bullshit, I'll start treating him like an adult. It's that simple.

He's responding to the content of your posts. Much of which I find painful to read due to the outright ignorance in them.

I do find that dviss1 probably overuses the term racist, but he's experienced more racism in a few minutes than you have in a lifetime.

You equate the word "nigger" with "honkie" and "cracker." There is no equivalence.

To not realize this is, by definition, ignorance.

The n word was screamed at slaves and freemen to keep the black people in line. It was far too often the last word a black man heard before being lynched, otherwise mudered, or maimed. There is no moral or other sort of equivalence to the words.

You've been allowed to prove you're ignorant and an ass about it. Don't be surprised to be called on it.
