Saw that yesterday, Gossage had some pretty valid points on todays game as well. As for myself I don't care for individual showboating. If the team wins then they've earned the right to "showboat" post game in the clubhouse. Bush League Bullshit.

In full agreement Michael. What's that old adage, "Act like you've been there before". Just no need to show up the other team. I kinda miss the days where guys like Drysdale, Ryan or Gibson would have put one in your ribs for acting like a jerk.

I saw Goose's rant yesterday too...

Actually I like his approach and take, baseball is becoming a squirrely game...too many rules...? I for one don't care for the Posey Rule, or the Utley rule, but then, my vote really doesn't count or matter...

Personally I think Goose was spot on...nothing I despise more than 'pimping' a HR, like its the first one they ever hit, ....!

I remember Nova drilling Bautista, laughed my ass off, sure kept him honest as well. Those old line pitchers had no problem with giving one some chin music when they got a bit out of hand. I can think of a few others the Yankees Staff needs to drill but we've had two Gentleman Jose in the managers seat. Teams did not pull that shit when Martin managed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duren, that guy was flat out scary, Stengel probably got a huge chuckle sending that guy out there.

And I've NEVER been a fan of giving BOTH sides a warning after one batter gets hit. And in that case (thinking like Billy Martin) unless the game is on the line I bring a low level guy out of the bull pen to nail somebody & I put a hat in the middle of the dressing room after the game to help pay for the players fine.

Bautista's home run was the second biggest in Jays history and the capper to what was the most insane inning I have ever seen watching baseball. Bautista hit a lot of homers last year and didn't act up except in this one case. If he can't show emotion in that situation than what does Goose want? A bunch of "nerds" running the bases with their heads down? I think we can appreciate Barry Sanders without wanting every pro to be just like him. A Deion Sanders here and there is a good thing. He flipped his bat, holy shit, it's the end of baseball...

Edit: should note that Goose says hotdogging is a disgrace but zapping a player in the head with a fastball is tradition. Ok, Goose, whenever you want to join us in the 21st-Century feel free...

...when Bautista hits a walk off in a World Series clincher like Joe Carter did then can hot dog it...until then, in most non-Blue Jays eyes, he's acting like a bush league punk.

...and fwiw, I don't think he's worth the kind of money he is reported to have demanded...supposedly $30 Mil a year for a 35 year old?...sorry, no way.

I bet ol' Casey did get a big chuckle everytime Ryne wasted one, 10 feet over the Catcher's head, during warm ups....

X years and dollars or I go elsewhere per an ESPN article on JB. Were I the Jays GM I'd have to get my guitar, hit a "C" Chord and sing that old Woody Guthrie line, "so long it's been good to know ya".

Anyone who gives him that kind of money & more than 5 years deserves his last 2 years when he reverts back to his pre-juicer days when he was only hitting 15 HRs with his 500+ ABs.

I think you may of misinterpreted what Goose said. He never mentioned players were 'nerds', he said those who run the game, (like Trashman & Hank) are ruining the game...

As for Barry Sanders vs Deion Sanders, if you had but one choice b/t the both, who'd you pick....??? I'd pick Barry over Neon Deion every single time. Sure a bit of Deion is ok, to an extent, yet look how Jerry Rice snubbed Deion for a year before the two became friends...

Sports is not about showing off or showing up the opponent, its about utilizing your skills, and God given talents on a showcase (not showboat), sacred diamond. It's may the best man and team win, with honor, respectfully, and humbly, its about Sportsmanship. Has everyone in today's game seemed to of forgotten who this game is played for, ntm- the millions of young kids watching who emulate these clowns...??? Sportsmanship has taken a back seat to Showboating...

Showboating has NO place in baseball, it never has, and never should...

and- this is B.S. too "The whole game has changed. The fans love it".
    Not so:

Here is an actual scenario. When Carlos Gonzalez played here for the Single A+ Minor Lg Team, the Lancaster Jethawks, every time he hit a HR to RF, (which the Mojave Desert 50 mph winds blow to, ie RF), Cargo would raise his hand, and flag, or pimp his HR. Have you ever seen a Minor Lg audience of 6, 500 fans, booo their own home player....for showing off....??? Yet, some say, even this article says, "the fans love it", my ass they love it. Perhaps today's fans don't have the ethics of elder players, and that much is a shame. Why did the fans booo, because they all knew, Cargo showboating style of play was not conducive to teaching, or even raising kids, as little leaguers who are going to emulate what they see.....

You beat me to the punch, there is NO doubt in my mind Bautista has been juicing, using a PED that is one step ahead of detection, no way does one go from 15 HR's to 54 in the course of a year, NO FKN WAY...!! Not without PEDS....

Joey Bats is a POS, always thought so, and that HR, was no big deal, none at all, not even the 2nd best Jays Hr, nah, meh- they sure didn't make it to the W.Series now did they, so much for such an important HR my ass....

Now this is spot on ...^^^

"Ryan Braun is a f---ing steroid user. He gets a standing ovation on Opening Day in Milwaukee. How do you explain that to your kid after throwing people under the bus and lying through his f---ing teeth? They don't have anyone passing the f---ing torch to these people".

I agree, however if you look at his decade-plus long career in MLB you're not talking about a litany of bad behaviour. I think it is fair to chalk this one up to being overcome by the moment and the intensity of that particular inning.

Jays fans are in unison that they would give him 3/90 but 5/150 is not appropriate, especially given that they balked at David Price asking for that kind of money and he's even younger.
