Dorsey scores 21 as No. 5 Oregon beats Army 91-77 in opener

Oregon coach Dana Altman had a great start to the season Friday -- in more ways than one.

After signing a new seven-year contract and three highly ranked high school recruits, Altman found a sold-out crowd of 12,364 eager to witness the beginning of his seventh season with the Ducks.

Tyler Dorsey scored 21 points and freshman Payton Pritchard added 15 in his debut as No. 5 Oregon opened with a 91-77 victory over Army.

Arizona coach Sean Miller came up with perfect ending for his Wildcats.

No 16 UCLA blows past Cal State Northridge in 2nd half

UCLA sustained several blows in the first half against Cal State Northridge, then delivered a knockout punch in the second half.

That's the way UCLA coach Steve Alford saw it as a poor first half, muddied by turnovers and missed shots, had the Bruins trailing at halftime. The No. 16 Bruins scored 62 second-half points and struck first, early and often as they dominated Cal State Northridge 102-87 on Sunday night.

Frosh Markkanen lifts No. 10 Arizona to difficult win

Two games in and Arizona freshman Lauri Markkanen is already drawing high praise from his coach.

"Lauri's one of the best players in college basketball," Sean Miller said. "He is. He's a monster."

The 18-year-old 7-footer from Finland scored 26 points and the 10th-ranked Wildcats held off a furious second-half rally by Cal State Bakersfield for a 78-66 victory on Tuesday night.

Moore sets Cal freshman record with 38 points in OT win

Sure, Charlie Moore has heard of Shareef Abdur-Rahim. When told he had just broken the former NBA star's California freshman record at this early stage of the season, he was thrilled.

"I was like, `Oh, wow, that's a pretty big accomplishment," he said, smiling.

The Golden Bears needed somebody to carry the load with three starters and key playmakers sitting out injured and a cold first half.

Moore scored 38 points to top Abdur-Rahim's mark of 33 points set in November 1995, Stephen Domingo hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 3:10 left in overtime, and short-handed No. 25 Cal held off UC Irvine 75-65 on Wednesday night.

No. 4 Oregon overpowers Valparaiso 76-54

An embarrassing road loss to Baylor may prove to be a valuable lesson for Oregon.

If the fourth-ranked Ducks want to meet their own lofty expectations, they'll have to earn it on the boards.

Two days after losing by 17 points to the unranked Bears, Chris Boucherhad 25 points and nine rebounds to lead Oregon to its 27th consecutive home victory, 76-54 over Valparaiso on Thursday night.

Freshmen Leaf and Ball lead No. 16 UCLA past San Diego 88-68

Knowing San Diego lacked a solid inside presence, UCLA went after the Toreros where it hurt.

T.J. Leaf had 26 points and 10 rebounds and fellow freshman Lonzo Balladded 13 points to help the 16th-ranked Bruins win 88-68 on Thursday night.

Markkanen scores 22, No. 10 Arizona routs Sacred Heart 95-65

Arizona coach Sean Miller called it "a typical November game."

For his 10th-ranked Wildcats, that meant another blowout over an overmatched opponent.

Lauri Markkanen scored 22 points to lead six Arizona players in double figures in Arizona's 95-65 rout of Sacred Heart on Friday night.

No. 8 Wildcats pull away to beat Northern Colorado 71-55

Parker Jackson-Cartwright took over as starting point guard for Arizona this season.

He's handled the takeover as well as he handles the basketball.

Jackson-Cartwright had 15 points, a career-high 11 assists and one turnover in 34 minutes in the eighth-ranked Wildcats' 71-55 victory over Northern Colorado on Monday night.

No. 13 Oregon beats UConn 79-69 for fifth in Maui

Oregon opened the Maui Invitational with a disappointing loss, won in overtime and closed with a click-on-all-cylinders win.

Winning the tournament was the goal, but getting better with each game wasn't a bad consolation.

Chris Boucher scored 21 points, Tyler Dorsey added 19 and No. 13 Oregon beat Connecticut 79-69 on Wednesday in the fifth-place game of the Maui Invitational.

No. 14 UCLA romps past Portland 99-77 in Wooden Legacy

UCLA coach Steve Alford thought Lonzo Ball got off to a slow start Thursday night.

If that was a slow start for Ball, it bodes very well for the Bruins this season.

The freshman sensation had 18 points and 11 assists for his third career double-double, turning in several spectacular plays as No. 14 UCLA romped past Portland 99-77 in the first round of the Wooden Legacy.
