Unfortunately, it's the conservative, blow it all up, wing of the Republican Party that is totally out of touch. They just are too caught up in their own self-righteous anger to realize it. Sure, they can kick the GOP apart, but they're never going to be able to win a national election because the majority of Americans don't want the things that these folks want. Abortion right have been settled by the Supreme Court. Gay marriage has been settled by the Supreme Court. The idea that Ted and his zealots are going to be able to change those facts is absurd. Trump doesn't give a crap about either issue, so he's not going to change them. Kick all of the undocumented aliens out of the country? Trump and Cruz can bluster about that, but the courts aren't going to allow it and the expense in both capital and human terms would be beyond belief. Repeal and replace the ACA? I haven't yet seen a plan proposed that would have a chance of being sold to the American people. It's likely with all of the chaos in the Republican Party that they'll lose control of the Sentate and, if that happens, Trump or Cruz ain't repealing diddly. Trump's "ideas" for cutting the deficit were exposed for the idiotic nonsense they are by Chris Wallace at the last debate. Yeah, the right-wingers are completely out of touch with reality.
I don't have to write anything, because you just said what I would like to say, but much more elegantly. Cheers.
Trump is the nominee for sure, but I don't see how he gets 65 million people to vote for him in the general, especially with the GOP establishment against him. Say what you will about Hillary (and you do), but she is by far the lesser of two evils and a lot of people will think that way.
So I just began listening to a podcast by historian Daniele Bolelli about duels including Alexander Hamilton. I'm only 10 minutes in, but already fascinating. I had no idea that Andrew Jackson had been in 13 duels, had been shot, then took his turn and killed the guy. Anyways, in context of the current presidential race, I though it would be fun to share. Trump is a peacenik in comparison. Podcast is History On Fire, episode "The Duel" http://historyonfirepodcast.com
Ha! Right you are! and now we know the reason for the caveat to the qualification a Natural Born. "natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution..."
I still hold out hope that she gets indicted and the Dems replace her with someone not so ethically challenged, but otherwise, I agree. Trump will unearth tons of crap to throw at her, but it won't exceed his own mountain of manure. This will likely be the dirtiest campaign in modern political history.
I'm at the point where I'll take the evil I don't know (Trump) over the evil I do know (Hillary). In the end, both are dumpster trash. If Hillary were to get indicted and someone else was put in her place, I would be happy. Of course, it will be interesting to see if Trump actually gets the requisite number of reps because if there is a contested convention, I doubt Trump emerges as candidate and then you have the full-blown fracturing of the GOP when Trump goes independent and many abandon the GOP and their "elite" power-broking leadership. Pretty much no matter what happens, the presidency is very likely to be disagreeable for the next few years. Gramps...
I'm not a fan of Hillary, but I agree with most of the stances she's taking at this very moment (that can change quickly with her) so just from a issue standpoint, I will almost certainly vote for her unless there is a third party candidate that I'm not factoring in.
I like it. All bark, no bite. Kinda like Obama's lines in the sand that didn't really turn out to be lines in the sand.
