...this is part of what ticks me off about the penal system...it's not supposed to be a nice place. Lawyers want to protect their "rights", but IMO, once you've proven you cannot abide by the laws of our society, your rights are forfeited. Hell, people in our jails get free cell phones, cable TV, internet, medical care, and they eat as well as many of our law abiding and tax-paying citizens...and they don't have to work...what kind of punishment is that?...and how is that somehow a deterrent to crime? ...if it were up to me, I'd bring back the chain gang, because if you committed a crime, I'm certainly not gonna reward you for it.
as well as free eye glasses, free dentures, at our expense. When most go without. Agreed, Felons lose all rights, while law enforcement is placed under a microscope, these guys are let free early way too often, due to over crowding, only to repeat their offenses, or new crimes... Jared deserved more than He got, from the sounds of it. Ya' know when he walked down the corridor upon entry, all he heard was yelling "chomo". I do hope he gets what he has coming, and that's more than a beat down, all those sexual pent up frustrations behind bars, while the guards look the other way....
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU CRAZY CANADIANS??? Don't make me Post in Caps Cause I Can't See...............lol
"Lawyers want to protect their "rights", but IMO, once you've proven you cannot abide by the laws of our society, your rights are forfeited". Just curious.....and I hope I'm not HIJAKING THE THREAD (lmao)....but, does your above comment mean the inmates including those on "chain gangs" dont have basic rights of not being systematically tortured or denied food or water for days? These are pretty basic "rights"....not everyone in prison is a horrible murderer, rapist or child molester. Sorry for goose-stepping out of line.
Chain Gangs, had to check into that one. Per the article I read the Civil Rights "Activists" demonstrated against them because they were akin to the old days of slavery. Newsflash when you are convicted you lose your civil rights. Also read that chain gangs were akin to "cruel & unusual punishment". Again what did the participant do to warrant that type of punishment. Bet their lawyers forgot about any cruel or unusual punishment they applied to their victims.
Speaking of living on taxpayers money in prison. Saw an article on Scott Peterson this am. Per Nancy Mullane to Geraldo Rivera, Peterson, unlike other Death Row Inmates is living a "comfortable" life while on Death Row. I recall reading of a 5 mile long list of cons waiting to waste him upon arrival. Instead he is whisked to an apparent island of safety on Death row, imagine his life in general pop. Better yet imagine him on a chain gang with a slip or tow of a fellow inmates sledge, yep that's the ticket. How a lawyers can defend some of the clients they get is beyond me.
...^^^ put 'em all together in prison and let things sort themselves out...things worked out well for Dahmer. ..."Don't do the crime if you can't do the time." (cue Sammy Davis Jr music)
If I'm not mistaken, the State of Louisiana, still has, chain gangs. The Weather is unusual and damn near cruel for those who did not either grow up there or acclimated over years, cruel to anyone. But, its not unusual, its the norm, sweltering heat and humidity.... ... not unusual to locals, and Chain gangs do keep the freeway shoulders clean from trash, et al..... Haven't seen any chain gang guys clean de bayou deaux....
Just heard on local news that a 29 year old man was busted on felony abuse charges to a seven year old girl. One of his more abusive acts was forcing soap down her mouth. To top it off the guy was a former corrections officer who'd beaten charges of inmate abuse. When this guy gets convicted Maurice & crew are going to have a ball.
Committing a felony should equal loss of Constitutional and Civil Rights, in both theory and practice. The founders had a more proactive sense of justice that has been watered down by liberals. In this regard China has it right....no point in wasting expenses to confine these people...a single bullet and it's billed to the immediate family as a shaming. The % of felons that are truly rehabilitated is insignificant to the other all expense. Maybe our penal system was fine for a 100M population, but at 350M....time to get tough on crime. Will there be mistakes? Yes, but it's an acceptable risk.
1- a lowdown dirty shame, hope the guy rots in Gulag... 2- A risk I'm willing to take... Nice POV on the differences b/t a Penal System designed for 100 Mil, vs 350 Mil, laws need to reflect the times, and keep pace......
I look at it this way....if it's acceptable to abort life at the very beginning, than why would our society have an issue to aborting a life that has thrown away it's opportunity and committed crimes against that society? One would think that a consistent choice person should support the death penalty, while a lifer would oppose it. But we actually have the reverse. I've often said that that the pro life folks should offer a grand bargain....keep your abortions but all felons hang.
