I'm not convinced that Sabonis is physically ready for the NBA. I certainly wouldn't spend a top 5 pick on him. I'm also not happy with his insistence on playing international ball.

That said, many players add bulk/muscle after joining the NBA. His B-Ball IQ is furlongs ahead of Leonard/Vonleh/Alexander. As a mid-to-late first rounder, I would consider him worth the risk.

Ya because players in college going into the NBA can't put on muscle or gain core strength. That's what they said about Kevin Durant and Lemarcas Aldridge.

Both of whom look to have 3 inches in height on him. I don't see a big guy when I watch his games.

He looks very skilled but I don't think he looks to be as physically gifted as his dad. images.jpg

The young one has a couple of extra inches of neck, look at his shoulders.

He is a big guy no doubt but not that big.

This is most likely all a moot point now, since Portland will most likely not even have a pick. Thank you Aaron Afflalo.

That's one of those things we've all done that just turned out even worse than what we thought the worst case scenario was.

I have never seen Sabas Jr. play a minute of basketball. I doubt his hype on this board.

I think it would be cool to have Sabas Jr. on the Blazers, as Sabas Sr. is one of my all time favorites, but it depends on the cost/value.

I consistently from the very beginning of his career wished Batum would take the summers off from international basketball and representing France to rest, get healthy, and work on his game. It would not be accurate to suggest I bashed him for it. That was never my mind set. I lamented that fact he didn't do it, because I think it wore him out.

As for Sabas Jr, if he played on the Blazers I would not want him to play in foreign summer competition, just as I don't want any Blazers player to do so. Not even the Olympics.

    He didn't watch.

Sabonis just completely dominated Poeltl who many believe is a surefire lotto pick.

I watched a lot of his games because like many, I wanted him to be an impact player like his dad...now, I think he'll be Chase Budinger..just a realistic take from watching him. I saw him dominate some college level post players and saw some dominate him. The media loves him. I also watched Ben Simmons play several games to see what the big deal was and also felt he's over hyped. Nothing against all his fans, I'm just not seeing him the way a lot of you guys do.

Not just a surefire lotto pick there was talk that if Poeltl came out with a strong tourny he could go in the top 5.

I want to draft Sabonis but not because i'm enamored with his talent and think he will be a surefire star, i'm not sure where he fits in todays NBA, but because I want the Blazers to hire his father to be Portlands big man coach for a few years.

I don't think Sabonis is going to be a superstar or anything. He's a 19 year old with immense talent, is adding little things to his game each day. Great post moves, a good passer, but most of all he's HUNGRY! The guy just fucking wants it more than the next guy. That's something lost in today's NBA. Watch the guy next game, he's one of the biggest competitors I've ever seen.

    Chase Budinger? lol wtf.

That just solidifies to me that you have no clue what you're talking about. Outside of being pale white guys they have virtually nothing in common. Coming out of college Budinger was hyped because of his extreme athleticism.

It's ok MZ....you don't need to believe my opinions and I don't have to buy into your Sabonis hype. He has skills...at the college level. That's the point and the Budinger comparison was that he's got a good jump shot and will need to get out of the paint to have an NBA role..if you actually paid attention to my posts, you'd see that I've pointed this out and complimented the kid's skillset as well as expressed my reservations about how he'll do in the NBA..lot's of guys are hyped in college..so what. Someone is clueless to the bigger picture but don't let that stop you...it's good to cheer for your favorite player.

I will give you that. I have liked many things about him and think he will be a rotation player in the nba. I think he is just lacking the athleticism and length to be a super star. I see his career as a McRoberts typebut probably a little better.

The difference is you could tell Batum wasn't right, and that he could use the rest.

I don't care if someone plays international ball, but if it starts to affect their duties to the blazers, that's when it bothers me.

If sabonis played on Lithuania, I'd love it and root for him. Might even buy a jersey of him.

So your basis for comparison was that they both had good jump shots

So anyone who plays in college and has a good jumpshot is like Chase Budinger...:ghoti:
