That and one was a total joke. The game never should've gone to overtime. You have a guy going straight up and backing away as the offensive player creates the contact, if there was any. Much like in the NBA, NCAA refs are horrible human beings.
uhhhh okay. That makes you a what? man.... Id love anyone to spend a season in a ref uniform and try to make all the right calls.. then get back to me....Pretty sure there is another member of this forum that would feel the same and take offense to this.... Much like other forums... the members here are terrible and keeping it specific instead of just bundling up and tossing out... I suppose that all drug users are the same too huh? And that all drugs are the same too. Generalize much there?
Was watching this game until 45 seconds left and Texas A&M down by 12. Decided to flip to other game. Oops! Thank you, YOU TUBE!! Fun comeback!
That was a horrible call on the +1 with 12 secs left no doubt, but NI has to blame themselves for the lack of ability to inbound the ball down the stretch.
You're exactly right. ROBBED... 2 reasons: 1. MARGINAL CONTACT IS NOT A FOUL. 2. That referee is calling out of his area. That's NOT his primary area of responsibility... It's the Center's call... They got fucked... Wow. . w What a disservice to the game... Edit: I didn't catch that little bit at the end @Paine Tablet. If we're such "horrible human beings" as you say, why did I call it out as a disservice to the game? And yes @bodyman5000 and 1 man I do take offense to it...
I've played enough organized basketball to have an appreciation for the difficulty of the job, I just don't think it's as hard as it's made out to be. As a player, it's actually pretty easy to see what it is going on on the court and a lot of times the referees are just plain making shit up as they go for whatever reason. I know dviss1 is a referee and I know he says he takes his job seriously, as a good referee ought to. Here's something else to chew on, I don't really think NBA refs or NCAA refs are horrible human beings. Some refs are biased towards certain teams or styles and some are incompetent. The hyperbolic criticism that you deigned to comment on simply reflects a person taking things too seriously.
Generally speaking people who take innocuous comments too seriosusly need to figure out what is wrong with them. Specifically..... YOU need to get over yourself. I read a recent thread where you took to personal attacks over people wanting a draft pick instead of the playoffs. Snap the fuck out of it, whatever it is you're dealing with.
I've played tons of organized ball. I tried to ref a kids hoop camp once and it was insanely hard.. now imagine crunch time in an NCAA tournament game..
I get that. I had the same experience with my time umpiring 13-year-olds. From the perspective of having no experience, yes, refereeing is hard. But the game slows down much like it does for players on the court once you've let muscle memory take over. My point is that as a player, one can be pretty sure whether a good call or bad call is made. Here is a link that is relevant and interesting: http://scoutingtherefs.com/2016/03/12412/university-study-claims-referee-ethnicity-bias/
Eehh... I think your over reading me a bit. Like I stated in another thread, I've been this way for a bit purposefully now. Basically portraying the opposite of what I have been reading... or trying to.. probably failed... Yes, I can take things too seriously, but its not about getting over it, or an issue... its a state of mind. I think some people take things not seriously enough. Do they need to get over themselves too? Do they need to snap out of whatever they are dealing with? Think you went a little personal on me when you don't really know me. I have come to accept who I am... a no nonsense guy with drive like few others. I get it from my band mates when they just want to jam and I tell them no because it doesn't get anything done. I get it from my best friend when he says sometimes talking to me is difficult because I don't always give a vibe of an attentive listener, and its not that im not listening, its that i'm also thinking. He has come to understand and accept this because he knows the trait I have, even with its flaws, is one that will take us to where we want to go. I hate phones... I feel so unproductive on them. Cant get anything done when I have a phone in my hand, so my brother gets pissed when I tell him I dont want to talk because i feel unproductive... but he understands... Its not about getting over myself. Its just about learning to relax a bit more. Trust me.. i'm better than I used to be...as I get older, I understand I'm not going to accomplish everything I want. I would like to see where I made a personal attack on someone though, As I try to avoid that and apologize if I did in error. I know I got frustrated, but I don't recall making any personal attacks... further more, I think they would have been edited or removed or something by the mods? I know I can be abrasive at times, but I don't mean anything personal on anyone here. Am I not allowed to get frustrated at others just like they get frustrated with me? Does that mean then that they need to get over themselves too? Two sides to every coin my friend!
Then Maybe YOU should put on some stripes and a whistle since you can do so much of a better job? You would SUCK at doing what I do.
Have you ever done it? If you haven't you don't know WTF you're talking about. Can you make clear, concise decisions, while splitting seconds and being correct? Not in your first 2-4 years of officiating you can't. Can you look AWAY from the ball when a Lillard like kid has it at the top of the key because you KNOW you have to focus on your primary area of responsibility? There are NBA refs who have trouble with that one so I really think not. If it's not that hard like you say, put on some stripes, grab a whistle and come ref. We need guys like you... And news flash, just because you play basketball means absolutely nothing. Players never know the rules. The only people that know the rules are the referees. Not the players, not the coaches, not the fans. You might think you know the rules but you really honestly don't. And that's not saying anything about you personally, that's just saying generally most people don't know the rules. If I gave you a rulebook you as well as many others in here would have a hard time interpreting it. We all know that when a player is holding or dribbling it, the hand is part of the ball right? Well in the rule book it doesn't specifically state that. It says that a common foul is defined as contact above a player's wrist. The bottom line is that there's absolutely no way you can do what we do successfully unless you've done it for at least 6-7 years. It takes at least 6 years to start getting Varsity games. And I refereed Payton Pritchard (best player in the state) at least 10 times in his high school career. So unless you've ever tried to do it you should really shouldn't disparage us because you have absolutely no clue.
Pardon me if I quote the same thing or get them out of order. There was too much to choose from. Felt like kicking my dog after reading your posts. I will bet money the mods skim your posts loosely.
