    TED CRUZ
    EDUCATION
Ted Cruz voted to block further action on a bill that would have enhanced benefits for veterans including guaranteeing in-state tuition rates at all public universities for post-9/11 veterans. “Senate Republicans derailed efforts to move forward with a $21 billion bill to enhance health care, education and job benefits for veterans. Republicans stopped the veterans bill from moving on a procedural vote, which needed 60 votes. The final tally was 56-41. Republicans and Democrats normally agree on the need to enhance benefits for the nation’s 22 million veterans and their families, but Republican senators wanted to lower the amount of spending in the bill… The bill would have improved benefits for veterans, including better health care and dental services provided by the VA. It also would have guaranteed post-9/11 veterans access to in-state tuition rates at public colleges and universities in any state.” [ABC News, 2/27/14; S. 1928, 2/3/14]

    VA FUNDING
Ted Cruz voted against providing $27 million for the Veterans Health Administration, as part of a $50.5 billion Superstorm Sandy recovery package. In January 2013, Paul voted against a bill that, according to Congressional Quarterly, included provisions that “appropriate[d] the following amounts: […] Department of Veterans Affairs —$27 million through fiscal 2014 for the Veterans Health Administration, including $21 million for medical services and $6 million for medical facilities expenses. —$1.1 million for the National Cemetery Administration. —$531,000 for information technology systems. —$207 million for major construction projects through fiscal 2017.” The provisions were part of a larger bill that, according to Congressional Quarterly, “provide[d] about $50.5 billion for communities hit by Superstorm Sandy. Nearly all funding [was] designated as emergency spending exempt from discretionary caps, except for $5.4 billion for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Disaster Relief Fund.” The Senate passed the bill by a vote of 62 to 36; and, because the House had already approved the bill, it was then sent to the president, who signed it into law. [Senate roll call vote 4, 1/28/13; Congressional Quarterly, 1/28/13; Congressional Actions, H.R. 152; Congressional Quarterly, 1/30/13]

Add the International Association of Fire Fighters to the long list of people and organizations that won’t be endorsing Ted Cruz for president. In his Iowa caucus victory speech, Cruz did some posturing about how great he’d be for firefighters and other first responders, and, rather than being pleased and flattered by the attention, the IAFF’s president calls it “disgusting.” Cruz’s words sounded celebratory (while delivering the obligatory Obama slam):

"To the police officers, and the firemen and the first responders, the heroes who rushed in to burning buildings instead of out of burning buildings, the last seven years of having a president, having an attorney general that demonizes you, that vilifies you, that sides with the 0criminals and looters instead of the brave men and women of law enforcement -- that will end on Jan. 20, 2017," [Cruz] said.

Problem is, Cruz opposed reauthorizing a law that provides health care for 9/11 first responders. You know, the people who rushed into the burning World Trade Center and then sifted through its still-smoking wreckage. It’s not hard to see why firefighters would be a tad annoyed to hear Cruz telling a national audience how he’d be their champion.

"What Ted Cruz did the other night in his Iowa victory speech is disgusting," said Harold Schaitberger, president of the International Association of Fire Fighters. "He said he embraces fire fighters and the dangerous work they do, says he’s our friend and calls himself a great patriot. But when it came time to actually have the backs of fire fighters across the U.S., he was AWOL. Cruz is the worst kind of politician who will say or do anything to get elected."

Easy '59,...you usually do your homework.....so,
how can Cruz cast these votes on a 911 issue?

Because the "issue" has been kicked around for a while... .....and once again the Democrats (imo) finessed "the Republicans" into looking bad and being on the wrong side of this matter to the common citizen.

Rick, I posted (#423) a couple/few things (Healthcare/Education) currently affecting Veterans and a bill which would extend and expand benefits to 911 first responders which Cruz voted against (2013-14) - and construction projects which would've begun in 2017.
Fair game- and you're right, the thread has taken a few twists including climate change to pictures of Queen Hillary Elizabeth and Trump sporting a Hitler mustache.

    wild and whooly! good entertainment

...I'm sorry for the 911 victims but that was 15 years go...get over it and move on...should the government on the hook to provide for those people forever?

...the USA doesn't even take care of its Vets...why would anyone expect them to take care of 911 victims?

...and why would someone choose to blame Cruz for it?...because they have an agenda, that's why.

There's no blame or agenda- I simply pointed out a couple of "nay" votes made by the Senator which helped squash benefits for some.

I'm sure Cruz is proud of his Senate record.......and attendance.

I think you may agree (?) just because the USA doesn't take care of its Vets doesn't mean the V.A. can't be overhauled and improved with the Vets getting their proper treatment and care.
And for what it's worth, speaking of agendas, there's been only one candidate who has consistently spoken about taking care of our vets and cleaning up the V.A.

How 'bout a couple of nice pictures to make us feel better.

I floated this idea to a Trump supporter. I said you know all those illegals you want to round up and deport.....do you know how many actually own homes? This person was oblivious to the fact that in the mortgage heyday, you didn't need proof of citizenship or legal status to buy a home. Then I added...just eminent domain the properties from the banks and give the homes to homeless vets.

He said he was gonna tweet it to the campaign and post to Trumps Facebook. Oy vey they don't get that this is basically what the fascists and Nazis did.

...what about all the other Senators who "voted nay"?...but yeah, there was no agenda and Cruz wasn't getting blamed.

...and exactly how would Trump fare any better with the Senate?...oh, I know, he'd "negotiate a better deal"...of course.

To be honest I stopped watching the debates a few weeks ago as I just grew tired of the immature playground mud slinging of the candidates. And now bringing the wives into the mix its just getting worse, and we haven't even seen the #1 target get a pie in the face yet (Clinton). You just know that whoever gets the nod (Cruz or Trump) that they are going to bring up EVERY ghost in her closet with a vengeance. Especially if its Trump which I've no doubt already has his people researching every dumb decision she's ever made.
