Obviously, we extend QO and retain the opportunity to match....that doesnt cost us anything. Is he a regular rotation player?

I predict he sees offers in the $10-$14M per year range. He's still very young. He has a serious 3PT shot and %. He is a good rebounder.
But he also has limitations that keep him from being a starting level player, let alone a star.

How much $$ would be too much to match?? He's a big and he will get offers for MLE+ type money (whatever that amount is going to be).

Meyers: Everyone knows you can hit a three. If you want to be somebody in the league, get that big payday and take care of your beautiful wife, it's time to develop a post game. A couple of go to scoring moves around the basket needs to be your primary focus this summer.

I'd also recommend looking up an ex player named Bill Laimbeer. See if he'll work with you for a couple of weeks. There's a lot you can learn from him.

    See you next season.

you never know Orion...that Leonard jersey may be the reason we're a playoff team this season...I wouldn't give up on it yet

Channing Frye has made a lot of money ignoring this advice... much to my chagrin.

    True.

OTOH, Channing Frye is a pussy.

Meyers has more physical tools. He should use them.

I'm not suggesting Meyers play exclusively under the basket, just that he needs to work on a back to the basket move, a drop step move, and a half-hook to round out his game.

Bodes well for retaining him cheaply. And with the way Crabbe is playing, we shouldn't have to worry about overpaying him either. All in all, despite the disappointing play of Meyers/Crabbe, this may all work out for the best - if we can keep them at half the cost they were projected to get when playing well, that'd be ideal!

At $8M each I wouldn't even hesitate. I can see a few GMs maybe offering each guy up to $10-12M, which is where Olshey will really have to survey the landscape and project into the future to decide whether the risk is worth it. But Meyers' injury, and Crabbe's awful play is currently making them much easier/cheaper to keep. Now if Crabbe breaks out in the POs all of his personal tanking will have been for naught and we'll unfortunately have to pony up...

I totally agree with you, but does Stotts? I have to think that if Stotts wanted that option in his offense he'd have had Meyers working on it. Just another detail that dims my opinion of Stotts.

Meyers is no Channing Frye, he is much stronger, plays much stronger and is going to be one of our best players. I find it hard to believe they can't fix his shoulder without surgery but that's western medicine for you, have an unneeded surgery that would set you back monthes in recovery, oh well. Back to the subject, Mayers is a big part of our future and not having him for the playoffs probably means no championship for us this year

Could be a perfect time for him to start working on foot work now that his upper body will be immobilized for a while. My feelings are that foot speed isn't something that can get dramatically better - you either have it or you don't. But he could still improve it from SUPER SLOW to just average slow. And even with slow feet, he can learn good foot work - which is more important than foot speed, IMO.

He's going to be out 6-8 months, that's a lot longer than I anticipated.

Gotta wonder if there's some strategy at work with this time table? Maybe to scare other teams off from offering him a large contract? Maybe a little agreement between the team and Meyers: You bet against yourself and it backfired. But don't worry, we've still got your back. We'll rebuild you and give you a fair contract.

Feel bad for the guy, hope he gets better soon and lands a good contract.
