But we're not dealing with the salary cap from a couple years ago, we'll be dealing with the salary cap from next year. $15M is $15M.. we shouldn't shy away from him because he was a max guy in the past

I think Cousins would respect Dame as a leader and would listen to him. This is possible because
1.) They're already friends, Cousins already respects him from afar and Dames a good leader
2.) They would work well on the court. Playing with another superstar would detract from Cousins ability to take over a game (which would create problems). Dame is the opposite way, he can get guys going and then will happily defer to them and let them do their thing.

The culture in Sacremento is so bad that it contributes to Cousins problems. He's very competitive but has never played a playoff game. His coach is a snake. The front office is a bunch of morons who supported the idea of playing 5 on 4 and cherry picking as if this was 3rd grade basketball.

I think Cousins compares us to the Kings is this manner

Kings: Fails to buy their way to a playoff spot by getting a bunch of aging veterans that don't mesh
    VS
Blazers: Found bargains on young energetic pieces and created chemistry on their way to a 5th/6th seed in the west

Tell me which situation you'd be more frustrated in. I only expect Tunchi to answer with "Blazers"

That's not my point. My point is he's a guy who has gotten and will get max money. Yes, the extension he signed two and a half years ago looks like a bargain now, but he'll still be in his prime when it expires and then, if you want to keep him, you need to be prepared to pay him the new, much higher max. If not, he's a two year, $31 million rental.

I have a problem with statements like this. It lets Cousins off way too easily. He is one of the biggest reasons the culture and locker room is so toxic. When Randive gave him that max extension he came out and said Boogie was the cornerstone of the franchise and had complete confidence he'd lead them back to winning ways. But, how has Cousins repaid that show of confidence? By criticizing his teammates, clashing with multiple coaches, having a public feud with a member of the media and getting suspended multiple times for conduct detrimental to the team. He claims he's a leader on that team. Does that sound like a leader to you? With Boogie, it's always somebody elses' fault - his coach, his teammates, his opponents, the refs, the front office. Truth be told, Demarcus Cousins' biggest problem is Demarcus Cousins.

Unfortunately the package will have to start with CJ - Unless SAC considers a consolidated roster ourside Dame/CJ with future picks into the afterlife.

Another angle - what if DMC and his agent specifically asks for Portland?

would you rather pay Crabbe/Henderson/Harkless $25M or would you rather give it to the best center in the league?

He said Cousins was the cornerstone but his following moves weren't made to build around him, they were made to acquire as much talent with no regard to how they fit with DMC or how well they could develop with him in the future.

He's also had awful and/or complete assholes as coaches. I don't hold that against him to much.

He doesn't respect his teammates, but then again look at who he's played with. He clearly respects Dame more than anyone on his team.

He's never been happy in Sacremento. Why wouldn't he be happy here?

In the Portland culture, he might turn into a Will Barton personality. Fans would take his antics humorously. Except for the Canzano readers. Their leader would have them hating him.

Dame, Crabbe, Henderson, Meyers......perhaps not quite 50%.

CJ is better and on a less expensive deal.

How is that even a valid question? Complete apples:oranges. It's not a valid either/or secnario. Even if we add Cousins, we still need a bench and four other starters. It's not like adding Cousins allows us to free up money by only carrying a 10-man roster and starting four players. Whether it's Crabbe, Henderson and Harkless, three new guys, or some combination all those players are going to get paid whether we have Cousins, or not. He may be the best center in the league (at least on offense), but he's not good enough that we no longer need four other starters and a viable bench.

Edit: I have no idea why the forum software turned my colon (the punctuation mark, not the body part) into a little yellow smiley face. Does is just assume anyone who participates here is too dumb to know proper punctuation usage and just assumes we're all 13-year old girls? Oh, I see it's the colon followed by the letter o that gets automatically changed into the lame ass emoji. But I actually meant colon o, not :o.

It's called being a professional. He's paid to be the cornerstone of the franchise, to be a leader - he said so himself, but he's the one stirring up the shit and causing problems and tension in the locker room. He may respect Dame more, but by disrespecting his current teammates and multiple coaches, HE'S the one causing problems. He's a horrible teammate and an even worse "leader". Rather then doing his best to work with the teammates he has and pull together as a team, HE'S the divisive force. That's a HUGE red flag for me for a player in his 6th NBA season. Until he PROVES he can be a professional, I'd proceed with utmost caution.

Neil Olshey has great relationships with players and agents around the league. I'm sure he knows much more about Boogie's mental state than anyone here. Given his mental frailty, and piss poor attitude, Cousins is high risk. He could be the missing piece, or he could be the one the completely destroys team chemistry. Very high risk, but also potentially high reward. I'll leave this one in Neal's capable hands.

I don't know why some of you continue to torture yourselves. Sacramento is not going to trade with Portland while they have better options trading him to the East. If I am Boston I go after him, and if I am Sacramento I accept. Boston has multiple 1st round picks, good young players, (I would ask for Marcus Smart) and cap space. Ainge is sitting pretty this summer.

Yep, we'd have to give up something REALLY significant (like C.J.) to even be in the running for the Boogie sweepstakes. Even then, Boston would just add another player or pick to trump our best offer.

Cousins, with his issues and with the diminishing impact of traditional low post centers in today's game, is someone you ADD to your team in the hope he gets his shit together and becomes the missing piece that takes you from lower playoff seed to contender. He's not someone you gut your team to build around. Think Detroit and Sheed. Sheed had similar red flags. Detroit didn't give up anyone in their top 7 to get Sheed, let alone a young starter averaging over 20ppg. Let someone else overpay for Boogie.

In the starting lineup. We'd likely have to give up one or two of Crabbe/Meyers/Henderson to get Derozen too. So yeah, 50%.

    Another suspension for Cousins:

6.7: Seconds left in the game when DeMarcus Cousins of the Kings picked up his 16th technical foul of the season, triggering an automatic one-game suspension.

Cousins and Rondo are both idiots for taunting the ref with 6.7 seconds left in a game they were winning by 14. Rondo got ejected and Cousins will now be suspended for picking up his 16th technical. For what? To show up a ref when the game was basically over? Immature morons.

I also did not know this - at 30 wins, this is now the winningest season of the Demarcus Cousins era. Yeah, yeah, I know the Boogie fanboys and apologists will blame his teammates (NOTHING is ever Boogie's fault), but you think when you're the "best center in the NBA", you'd be able to lead your team to more wins.

He's been playing at this level for 2 years. Over those 2 years the starting lineup for the Kings has had one of the best net ratings for any starting lineup in the league. They suck because they have an awful bench. This year they made improvementsome but it's still pretty damn bad.

Maybe he could clone himself so that he could start and come off the bench to bolster that unit too...
