If those problems are off court, then probably not. But I haven't heard anything about him being an off court problem. If he came here, he would feel like he was important, and he would most likely take after lillard, he sees the amount of respect that lillard gets. And the way he acts. Good leadership.
Larry sanders couldn't hold a candle to whiteside. Skill, or size. Larry sanders also had multiple off court issues. Not sure what you're talking about..
Dwyane Wade is a 3 time NBA Champion. He's a 12 time all star. Finals MVP. Has been on many All NBA teams. He's never had off court issues. He's always handled himself professionally on and off the court. Other than his ability to draw phantom fouls, you never hear complaints about him. Chris Bosh is a 2 time NBA champion. He's an 11 time all star. He's never had off court issues. He's always handled himself professionally on and off the court. If some asshat can't follow the example of those two guys. Can't follow their leadership, the way they act, and the example that they set? Can't see the amount of respect they get? Then fuck him. A guy like that aint going to be lead by anyone.
I guess I just don't share your views on dwayne wade. Ever see the way they treated Mario Chalmers? I think Damian is much more professional than dwayne wade. Chris bosh has always seemed like a good guy, but with all his injury troubles, coupled with the fact that, he probably thought whiteside wasn't going to stick around, I doubt they had much mentor/mentoree time.
Kinda feel like we need an asshole on our team. Someone who pisses off the opponents as well as his own team and sets a fire under em when we go through the motions. I flip flop so much on Whiteside. Like our veersion of Draymond Green. Feel like I'm back in favor of him again
I only got to see the very end of the game. What do people think of Whiteside now? Interesting in pursuing him in Free Agency?
I'm not interested at all in him becoming a Blazer. Way too risky. Too much of a headache. Makes great dominant plays but some dumb mistakes too. I enjoy that our team is all unselfish; have a strong work ethic and no maturity issues. But Whiteside is a hell of a talent. Had many awesome plays on both ends tonight. He could be an allstar, or he could take his money and do jack shit. If I was running the Nets or Lakers I'd give him a full max deal. Those teams suck bad so if he flops there's little downside. I'll be interested what he does next year.
He's like Plumlee was last season before our ace assistant coaches got their hands on him. I say, get Whiteside if he's cheap. Which he won't be.
Obviously at the right price I would take him. But I think block shots are a little over rated. Whiteside had 4 blocked shots in the first half....and we still put up 59 on them. So even though having a rim protector is a nice luxury, how much does it really accomplish? Tonight our 2 centers were 9-12 from the field, with 5 assists, 3 steals, and 19 rebounds. True they don't do that often, but I just don't think spending 20 million on Whiteside is the right move.
Well, having a true rim protector affects a lot of shots that don't show up in a box score. It's not just the blocked shots. It's the altered shots and just the overall fear in the back of players' minds knowing that they're there.
The kid does alot good things on the court but like some of you have said if he gets a big contract does he go south.I am 50-50 on going after him but not a max. If we get him more like you have to trade plum an Davis I don't see Davis going any where's but I also 50-50 with Plum he good hustle guy but I don't think he his the player to anchor are defense in the future.
He looked good when the guards were just driving into the paint recklessly. Great. Once they started putting Whiteside in the pick and roll he lost all his effectiveness.
I'm talking about great shot blockers in general. Not Whiteside. Guys like Mutombo and Ratliff and Dwight Howard when he was younger.
On a one year deal yes. I wouldn't give Howard the multiple years he'll want. He has major matchup problems in his game today and will decline rapidly in effectiveness every season. Look at Amare tonight; 2pts 1 reb 2 turnovers. That'll be Dwight in 3 years.
But we still put up 59 in the first half. I guess a great shot blocker it is handy against teams who score a lot in the paint, but that is becoming fewer and fewer teams. I have been lobbying for a center by committee for that reason. But that would mean you can't give one of them the max.
I agree, but this thread is about Whiteside. If you don't think Whiteside is a great rim protector what is your point?
