...even if the slide rule was not been applied, Bautista clearly tried to grab the fielder's leg...that's interference; http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/...lide-rule-after-loss-to-tampa-bay-rays-040516
I can see by the frames; this is on Joey Bats, "I got touched coach" rule, 'Utley Rule' or apropos: "pansy rule", better yet, lets put chartreuse glow in the dark ballerina dresses on the middle infielders, because on of 'em got touched..........lets do the same with QB's and Catcher's too, hell why not all runners while there at it..... Normally, I'd jump all over Joey's ass for any stunt he pulls, he's the enemy. In this case, I cite the league for further decline in a play without another rule to impose, (as you said it eloquently prior): "the pussification of MLB". This rule was supposed to prevent injuries, no way Bats is even trying to do so, more like he's saying, I can get you anytime, but I'm not this one.......then the game is ovah=
I thought it was a great call. You're trying to prevent someone from completing a play. In Basketball that would be a foul. I agree with the call. Its called cheating.
looked like it was after the fact, or a bit too late, and I don't buy Bats causing the errant throw to first neither....I gave it numerous looks, the only questionable look wasn't the FACT Joey indeed did have his hand on his ankle, but did he truly upset that throw...? We may never know... my point is this was not the play to use the rule, even if he did touch him, the rule doesn't belong in baseball. How many people have been trained to play ball, by breaking up the double play.....this game is not going forward, all the time, this one is a step backwards, IMO...as is the "Posey Rule", Catchers look like little leaguer's these days trying to apply tags...
...yup...and after the game John Gibbons' rant was over the top...and I'm sure if the shoe had been on the other foot he would view things differently.
...like Mess and I are saying, even without the "slide" rule, there has always been an "interference" rule...runners are not allowed to interfere with fielders, and vice versa. Bautista tried to break up the DP illegally and got caught.
No doubt, Bats clearly interfered, (I just got to vent), personally, I thought Joey Bats was trying to get a peek at Forsythe's cool socks.... tho' I'm not a Schoenfield fan, I got to say, the first opening paragraph, of his article, maybe the best one of the day: "Here's what I know about the controversial ending in the Toronto-Rays game: Goose Gossage would most definitely not approve". (chuckling) ,,, Ref: http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/p...ads-to-bizarre-controversial-game-ending-play
Gossage needs to learn the old adage "Make sure brain is in gear before putting mouth in motion". Come to think of it, its also something Trump could learn.
no doubt Joey knew what he did, and his grab cost 'em the game.... regardless, yes, I'd of called Joey out, but but but- I don't like the new Utley or Posey Rules, and never will....jest sayin'... No, I don't want to see Player's hurt, but a rule to ensure such, IMO, is too much. Umps should of used better discretion in years past, and perhaps we'd not have a need, (if you wan't to call it a need) for either rule; ie, blocking the plate or interfering on the basepaths.... What's next...? No Chin Music either, tho' they're close to it already... On that note, the Umps who blew the call in yesterday's yanks game, should be whipped....
I agree Rob, granted Betances made an awful throw but if the runner wasn't in his way he could have tossed it underhand instead of trying to throw it OVER the runner.
Yep, I wonder if nailing the runner in the back went thru Betances mind, of course an attempt to nail the runner could of also resulted in a wild errant throw, but it'd feel a lot better for the fans, & pity the runner....
