what are you even talking about? my post was in response to idiots saying that they don't like the NBA responding to bigoted laws.
In the other thread in the OT section regarding heaven and afterlife and souls and such, there is lots of discussion about the scientific community deciding that consciousness and sentience is nothing more than biology, that there is nothing more significant there than neural synapses firing. Wouldn't it hold, then, that this notion of gender identity is also nothing more than biology, wholly dependant upon electrical impulses in the brain firing in a certain way? Why is it that as a society, we've decided that the invisible, indecipherable biology of the brain is somehow of greater import than than simple biology of the genitalia? Especially when we're continually told that perception is fallible and malleable; shouldn't that concept apply to our own self-perception as well?
Yes I do. I mean, we're not best friends. I don't have many real friends but she and I have hung out.
Well you tell her she's a great fucking actor! She does a good job of making me mad at her character and still feel bad for her character.
I think you're right that the brain is incredibly important. Surely you've met small figured men who think they are big tough dudes and large men who think of themselves as meek. There are many examples of gender identity disorder who are depressed until they have gender reassignment surgery and then the depression goes away.
You say "people are born with the wrong parts". You're saying that if they two disagree, the brain is right and the body is wrong. If it's all biology, why is the brain's biology more important than the body's biology?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causes_of_transsexualism Currently, there are numerous possible explanations of the cause of transsexualism, including genetics, brain structure, brain function, and prenatal androgen exposure. Other theories have proposed linking the cause to psychological and behavioral reasons. These theories are not necessarily mutually exclusive. More in depth at the link.
Im not sure why this is such an issue with people. If someone is trans-gendered, and wants to use the "opposite" bathroom, who cares? I'm not really sure I understand what the major concern is anyways. That they might take a look? they might make a move? I'm sure men (who are TG, and presenting as female) are totally doing it just to take a look at women peeing and pooping, and it's all a big con. Same with women who are presenting as men. Whats really strange is that in most bathrooms, it's not like there's a huge amount of people using them. Malls and sporting events are about the only places were the #'s of people using the bathrooms are big. If people are worried about potential molestation issues (re: little girls), the most common molestation cases are among straight males, not TG's. So if this is an actual concern (I don't know if it is actually), shouldn't it be for separate bathrooms for children and adults? I don't necessarily like using the bathroom with a bunch of other dudes there anyways. I don't care if they were guys born with schlongs, or without. Plus, in most cases, wouldn't it be safe to assume the TG's use the toilet stalls anyways? How is that harming anyone? It seems to create more problems than it's worth, imho. Somehow I think this is more of a problem for men, than for women. We're the ones who get weirded out in bathrooms and assume shit. If all bathrooms had individual urinals (and there were no ice filled troffs), I doubt any of would care.
What Constitutional right is being taken away? The rhetoric is huge on this issue, and much of it is not accurate. Religious freedom bills do NOT allow restaurants to refuse to serve people based on sexual orientation. They do NOT allow non-religious-based companies to discriminate against gay men. Let me give you a reverse example. Let's say there was a very qualified non-profit leader who decided they wanted to be a leader in GLAAD, to help guide the future of the organization. But, let's also assume that person is heterosexual and believes that a marriage should only be between a man and woman. Should GLAAD be able to DISCRIMINATE against this person because of their sexual orientation and religious beliefs? Absolutely. If a cake shop is owned by a PETA member and someone wants to order a cake with a dead animal on it, should they be allowed to decline? Absolutely. If a Blazer fan owns a store that makes custom clothing, should they be forced to combine piss and purple? May it never be. BTW, Jewish and Muslim bakers often refuse to make Christian cakes. Not a big deal, just find a different bakery.
