Meyers is a NO pick. I would guess it unlikely the he will give up on him easily. I don't think it will be that close. I expect we will end up signing him to $10-12M or he will get an offer of $16+ and we will let him go.
I think Meyers turned down the 10mil already...he'll get paid to start somewhere and I doubt we'll match what some teams will offer. Sign and trade would be ideal.
I think Milwaukee will sign him. They need shooters more than any team in the league. I think they ship out Monroe for a pick or guard and try for a Meyers/Henson frontline.
You should be able to trade upcoming RFAs during the draft. The team acquiring a RFA would (technically) still have their rights.
I feel like Meyers can really be a fantastic piece, I just wish he was more confident/loose on the floor. His biggest enemy is himself, he thinks too much and ends up making mental errors. If he would just approach the game with a "nothing to lose" attitude like he did against Memphis we'd have a PF that puts up 15/10. However, I can't justify giving him some bloated contract to find out if he will figure it all out.
I think I agree with you. The ability to match contracts is a valuable asset. It's un-American to not let a business entity be able to capitalize on it.
We'd probably have to give up more to be honest. At least a future 1st unless they're really trying hard to get rid of him
Monroe can opt out next summer in 2017. I disagree he's worth a first; firsts are often the second most valuable asset in this league after superstars. Monroe has many questions if his contributions actually help any of his teams win. Then he could walk for nothing in a year. I could see us having to give up a second. Milwuakee could possibly sign Dwight Howard, with some of the savings of swapping Monroe->Meyers.
I have no interest in Monroe though; we already have a great offense with DameCJ. We need good to elite defense from our front court to be a balanced team. Think I'd rather just sign Bismack Biyombo. Neil has chased Monroe for years so who knows what he thinks.
I'd much rather try to trade for Henson. They really aren't playing him much; I have to wonder how highly they view him.
