Were they low balling him or did his agent find 1 GM who was willing to over pay for him. His comments at the time were pretty clear that he didn't want us to match. But that is all water under the bridge. Sounds like he changed his mind once he came back. So if he loves Portland, we should be in the running for him this summer.....assuming we offer him what he and his agent want....Max Money.
He's going to be offered a max deal by some team this offseason; perhaps by several teams. On this team, I don't see him as a max player, and I don't think NO or PA did either. So it stands to reason that he'd go elsewhere. Call it "lowballing" if you will, but I've never seen his contributions as really being commensurate with his salary, and certainly not with a max salary.
Maybe to you, but to the majority of us, it seems fairly obvious. Read below. That situation stunk and got messy real quick. Yes, there is a thing about letting your agent make you your money, but if a player really wants to be in a city, then you have your agent deal as such. He let is agent play us and we ended up giving him a few mill more than he was worth because of it. I'm sorry, but that's a huge hint that he isn't loyal and could easily bolt when a free agent. This is very real
it was reported Portland was offering an extension averaging 5M per year, which was average NBA player dollars at the time. The TPups offer sheet he signed was (in retrospect) slightly above average front court starter dollars. So to answer your question, maybe some of both http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8...erwolves-submit-46m-offer-sheet-nicolas-batum I'm sure this thread will be bumped when he does sign, but put me down for no way in the world that happens. Like last time he'll sign for starter dollars. STOMP
LOL! @you think you're speaking for the masses when 1 single poster opens the door to the possibility that you could be right STOMP
Hmm care to quote those who agree with you? I've already quoted someone who didn't... Keep laughing... hahaha
as a small part of my next work contract, I (acting as my own agent) want exclusive use of Timberline Lodge. If no one offers me that I may be willing to settle for less. STOMP
I remember the 3 picks offer. Does anyone remember which picks they were? I believe at the time the Wolves owned quite a few random first rounders.
Hey remember when Nic Batum was a 20yo starter for us and gave us 5.4pts and 2.8reb in 18mpg... Now we have a 20 who has started much of the season and given us 3.6pts and 3.9reb in 14 mpg.
He certainly didnt agree with you, he questioned you. Listen you may very well think Nic is LOYAL to us for whatever reason, but the facts of history prove otherwise. If he was, he wouldn't have played for France last summer, knowing full well it fatigues him. Portland has never been his #1 priority while here. What makes you think he is loyal other than his departing message? He played us for more money. He played summer league knowing it would affect his game for the team that actually PAYS him. He was never loyal. End game.
There's over 32 max contract slots available this summer. It's a lock Batum signs for the max. I expect he stays in Charlotte and cashes in $158 million.
Just because there is enough collective cap room to sign that many max contracts doesn't mean that many will be given out. I'll be shocked if more than 10 UFA max contracts are signed this summer - even 10 would be too many, but this is the NBA.
Batum has averaged 15.07 ppg this year, with a standard deviation of 5.70 (37.8%). Aminu has averaged 10.23 ppg this year, with a standard deviation of 3.99 (39.0%). Scoring wise, technically Batum is more 'consistent' than Aminu by a small margin. But both these guys are pretty inconsistent for being starters though. In comparison, Dame is within 26.0% of his scoring average, and CJ is within 23.5%.
As I recall the Blazers offered him the low ball extension before the season started. I believe the deadline is and was October 31st. Nic, as I remember, had a good season and drove his value up. The Blazers offered him closer to 9 per year at the end of the season. If he or his agent was offended by the initial offer, than that just goes to show you how difficult it will be again this summer. ...... If he has the same guy running the show. (Which I have no idea if he does)
He has yet to be a free agent. NOBODY has paid him big bucks yet. So talking about that when we're talking about the year that has passed is a red herring.
this is getting more and more ridiculous. Pinwheel didn't disagree with me (as you claimed earlier... which amazingly metamorphosed into claims of speaking for the masses), he explored the subject with a question which I responded to with even more context. He certainly never agreed with you. I don't think & have never claimed that Nic was LOYAL. I've acknowledged that I don't know him or what he's thinking in countering another poster who somehow is sure of his intentions despite offering zero reasoning. I suspect that like most people Nic would like to be fairly compensated for his work. In the NBA that value is determined by the market, just like last time for him. All things being the same, I've no reason to think he'd be more (or less) open to an offer from the Blazers. Can't wait for the next round of convolutions. STOMP
