Yeah Michael Kay mentioned it the other night. Between Mitchell and now this it's not good news as the depth keeps eroding.
I think the Yanks may have enough "depth" to withstand the loss of Rumbelow. They still have at AAA -Tyler Webb LHRP, James Pazos LHRP, Brandon Pinder RHRP, Nick Goody RHRP, Tyler Olsen LHSP, the two guys they got in the Wilson trade - and Diego Moreno RHRP who has bounced around the minors but has managed a 2.78 ERA/1.05 WHIP in 346 IP including a 2.18 ERA/1.02 WHIP in 53.2 IP at Scranton last year. And Johnny Barbato who has (thus far) helped out in the pen this year. He was one of the players protected instead of Chase Whitley. I would tend to believe the Yanks currently have comparable depth to compensate for Rumbelow . Hope so. Go Yanks
I'm stating the obvious but the Yankees need more innings out of their starters. Even when Chapman is back in the mix you can't have guys consistently only going five or six innings and kill the bullpen throughout the course of the season.
No doubt about it and Girardi is the one who has to decide when to forcefeed an extra inning here and there from the SPs.
... Sigh...unproven youngsters don't edual "depth". ...there's a reason why Rumbelow and Mitchell were on the big league roster and the warm bodies you mentioned were not. Arbitrarily and blindly correlating minor leaguers as major league depth is simply blind homerism.
So far in 2 starts................. Tanaka = 10.2 IP record 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA Eovaldi = 11.2 IP record 0-1 with a 6.94 ERA Pineda = 11.0 IP record 1-1 with a 6.55 ERA
It's early but eventually there has to be more innings. You want to see some nice seven inning starts. Sometimes I think it's a mental thing with these guys . They get distracted when approaching 100 pitches. Girardi should just tell them. Unless it's a disaster or you're in danger of 150 pitches you're going seven innings tonight.
...Eovaldi throws way too many pitches...he has the stuff, that obvious. He just needs to be more economical.
...Yanx have 2 quality starts out of 8 and the starters average 5 1/2 innings per start...yeah, it is early but they need to go deeper into games or the BP will be spent by September.
sigh....oh well, my bad. I should stop expecting the Yanks or any other team from looking towards young inexperienced minor leaguers to help fill holes for middle relief work? The Yanks should have a good supply of "experienced" middle relievers who have proven to be good enough to be in AAA and not good enough to make the opening day roster. lol Did I get it right? Sorry for sounding "homerific". ....and.... ...why do I get the feeling if the Yanks called up an older re-thread reliever or player from the minors to fill a hole, you would be the first one to mock them (Cashman) for contradicting "his plan"? lol Okay, you can call me homerific - however, in the 2nd week of the season, you're already reminding me of the combination of The Grim Reaper and a front row heckler. The problem with the Yanks...we just don't win anymore. Cashman doesthese horrible deals and get taken advantage of.... You'd think the Trumpkin would follow this logic.
