Replacing Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with Harriet Tubman, really? WTF? I'm sorry but this agenda to subvert tradition is completely wrong.
...Tote, I'll probably get a lot of heat for this but I'm sick of being subjected to the Jackie Robinson thing every year. Hey, yeah, I know blacks were wrongly kept out of baseball for so many years and yes, of course it was wrong. ...but I mean the civil rights bill is now 50 years old...and Jackie broke the color barrier 65 years ago...do we really have to be reminded of it every fucking year by having it crammed down our throats? ...sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine.
Ironic, I was thinking the same about JR day, when watching the Yanx....did not remind me of JR, but Mo'...(sacrilege to Mo' since they're being worn for another)... didn't feel the JR down the throat, until watching other highlights...and yep, I'm sick of it, had enough.... As for currency, damn it, leave it alone, Jackson a Prez and War Hero, replaced...WTF... found this interesting yet inflaming....from 'Politico' Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew for reneging on his 10-month-old commitment to put a woman on the face of the $10 bill, which is the one currently in line for an anti-counterfeiting makeover. But in the months of taking public comments on what woman he should pick, Mr. Lew evidently bowed to the Broadway-stoked popularity of the $10 bill’s current star, Alexander Hamilton. Instead, images of women are expected to grace the back of the new bill, with Ms. Tubman taking the top spot on a redesigned $20 further into the future. This once great Nation has become an open loony bin .... Lincoln should of offered boat rides back to Africa...(we've been down this road, and I despise calling anyone an African American, when their heritage is numerous generations removed from the Jungles, not even close. While others are but a gen or 2 removed from Overseas European founded Nations).... bottom line if born here, your an American, period... Yep, thanks for adding the lyrics tag, this is a Sad Cafe.... a touch of music with my whine....
In 1814 we took a little trip, along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississio, We took a little bacon and we took a little beans and we caught the bloody British at the town of New Orleans. We fired our guns and the British kept a comin' wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago. We fired once more and they began to running, down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. Maybe that's why Andrew Jackson is on the $20,00 bill. Yeah, we're gonna fight for it: Charleton Heston as Andrew Jackson in the Buccaneer. Maybe a tad bit Red, White and Blue but seeing "The Buccaneer" made me damn proud to be an American. Change the currency: What the fuck for. ,
Your old road is rapidly aging. Please get out of the new one, if you can't lend your hand. For the times they are uh...changing.
Standing on the water, casting your bread While the eyes of the idol with the iron head are glowing Distant ships sailing into the mist You were born with a snake in both of your fists while a hurricane was blowing Freedom just around the corner for you But with truth so far off, what good will it do. "Infidels" ....
...and fwiw, just because the "times are a changing" does not by default, necessarily mean those changes are for the better.
The age difference in Jimmy Driftwoods "Battle of New Orleans" 1959 and Dylans (Zimmerman) 1964 makes 5 years. So Dylans road is getting a bit of age. Jacksons victory at New Orleans was huge for a young USA even though the War or 1812 was over. The man earned his spot on the Twenty, I rest my case. Charleton Heston was a damn good pick to play Andrew Jackson.
i'm sorry but our currency is reserved for founding fathers and preeminent presidents....period. molly pitcher has more fucking claim to a bill than tubman.
good...then when we change things back an assign you all self-identities of "sit down and shut up" you'll be tolerant enough to embrace the change.
I was thinking the very same thing. This isn't the early 60's, and Civil Rights has been turned into Separate Rights, not at all what RFK had in mind... kinda' like this:
Honestly there isn't one person in the 20th Century fitting to be on the 1/5/20/10/50/100$$ bills, hell not even on a penny or nickel.... IF- this Nation were to cave into special interests, then why not Frederick Douglass (aka: Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey)....? Just sayin'.... I see no justification or need for currency to change faces, and don't see any reason for it, not a one....!
Sorry to drudge up an old post, but I couldn't help myself when I saw this video.... besides, I'm still pissed over this issue, and will be 'til the day I die.... With all thanks to our own Vic, otherwise I'd not know this classic comedian/realist...
