Times - Free-agent forward Chris Webber and the Lakers took another step toward each other Thursday, with Webber's agent saying his client was highly interested in heading west, and the Lakers acknowledging they were more than willing to listen. "They're definitely a team that Chris is considering," agent Aaron Goodwin said. "He wants to be in a situation where he can continue to play and get significant minutes. He's rested, healthy and ready to go. The Lakers are playing well. Kobe's doing a great job of integrating everybody and turning it into a winning organization this year." "There's a few teams that he's reviewing and then we're going to move forward. He's definitely excited." Webber has narrowed his choices to the Lakers, Dallas, Detroit, Miami and Orlando, Goodwin said. Should Webber choose to join the Lakers, Aaron McKie appears to be the player most likely to be waived.
Webber had said yesterday at half time of the Bulls game that he wouldn't mind playing with Orlando and Dwight Howard. As good of a player as Webber is, I would like to see him stay away from the Orlando Magic. We already have a nice rotation set for the most part, and I really like how the team looks right now. I don't want us to get someone that will want alot more touches, that I am sure Chris Webber would want alot of touches.
He did say that he wasn't going to command anything. He wants to win a championship and will do whatever it takes to win.Starting 5: Jameer Nelson, Grant Hill, Hedo Turkoglu, Dwight Howard, Chris WebberSecondary: Carlos Arroyo, Keyon Dooling, Trevor Ariza, Darko Milicic, Tony BattieOther Bench: Keith Bogans, Bo OutlawInactive: JJ Redick, Travis Diener, Pat GarrityReleased: James AugustineWe just replaced Chris Webber with James Augustine. What'chu think Valo?
They sent Augustine down to the NBDL, so I don't think he is on the roster anymore unless they call him back up. I don't know how that whole thing works, but I would assume he isn't on the roster anymore. I like Tony Battie in the starting lineup because he provides that strong defense that Chris Webber doesn't. Then Milicic off the bench provides that same defense that Battie does, and allows Howard to concentrate on guarding the Center at pretty much all times. Chris Webber can pass for a big man, and is good on the offensive end, but he takes away from our strong team defense that we have right now. So I just don't know about him coming to the team.
Webber just wouldn't fit in witht the Magic. Webber is more of a half court player. Also Webber wants a chip, no offense but the Magic are on the right track but are still a year or two away from contention imo.
If anything that article would make you think that he is closer to the Lakers than the Magic... Nice to see the Lakers organization trying to make it happen.
