Oh god yes. Mo is going to be a cornerstone once he develops a consistent outside shot. This playoff experience is golden for him, well worth forgoing our draft pick this season.

Unfortunately, he's in exile and has been replaced by someone competent - Sean Marks. Marks cut his teeth as assistant GM in San Antonio, is a bright guy and has a long term vision that will prevent teams like POR and BOS fleecing them out of draft picks for over-the-hill vets like Gerald Wallace and Kevin Garnett.

Besides, they don't fully own their first round picks for the next three years (they traded away their first round picks in 2016 and 2018 and owe their pick in a swap with BOS in 2017 - what's the point of sucking if you don't even own your first round draft picks for the next three years?)

They also don't have any young talent that matches our window. Brook Lopez is 28, injury prone and owed $43 million over the next two years. Thad Young is about to turn 28 and is an undersized power forward who is a worse 3-point shooter than Chris Kaman. I'm not sure what you call the opposite of a stretch-4, but I call him Thaddeus Young. He'd be a horrible fit in Stotts' system.

Yeah, I think that well has run dry.

I assume, based on this statement, that you believe that Aldridge was also a horrible fit in Stotts' system?

BTW, I've always been a Plumlee fan. Here's what I wrote two years ago in the thread titled Well, what Center do you Want?

"Most likely not available, but I want a Plumlee. Either one will do, but I'd prefer the one that plays for the Nets. He just blocked a LeBron dunk to preserve a 1 point victory. He's athletic, runs the floor well and plays both smart and aggressive."

And, where have all the "No more white American-born centers" crowd gone? They've been conspicuously silent during this post season.

You assume wrong on all counts.

First, Aldridge is not "an undersized power forward". He's one of the biggest, (perhaps the biggest) power forwards in the league. Young is 6'8" 221 lbs. and was originally a SF, until he proved too slow to guard other small forwards.

Second, Aldridge is not "a worse 3-point shooter than Chris Kaman". Last year in Portland, playing for Terry Stotts, Aldridge was 37-105 from 3-point range. That's a very respectable 3FG% of .352 (the league average last season was .350). This year, Young was 7-30 from 3-point range for a 3FG% of .233. In Stotts' system, Aldridge was an average 3-point shooter. Young is a significantly below average 3-point shooter and has been his entire career.

Finally, Stotts tailored his offense around making Adridge the #1 option. Unless he suddenly becomes completely insane, he would never do the same for Thaddeus Young.

Prior to this year, Young was generally 31% from 3. This year is an aberration. In fact, he shot 38% from 3 during the games he played in Brooklyn last year. He also shoots significantly better from above the break than from the corners, which would mesh well with the corner-3 specialists here. Furthermore, from the mid-range, he's actually a better shooter than Aldridge (43.4% from 15-19 ft this year, vs 42.9% for Aldridge). And on top of that, he's a significantly better dribbler than Aldridge, as well as a a better and more willing passer (compare their assist percentages, usage rates, and % of assisted baskets). His skill-set is actually much better suited for Stotts' read-and-react flow offense than Aldridge's ISO game is.

Generally 31% from 3 is still far below league average, and a guy who only attempts 30 three pointers in over 2400 minutes of playing time doesn't space the floor the way Stotts likes.

His passing and ball handling skills are redundant. Mason Plumlee is better at both.

Claiming Thad Young would be a better fit in Portland is ludicrous. Have you forgotten that we won 54 games with Aldridge as our #1 option? Have you forgotten Aldridge's back to back 40+ point games in stealing Games 1 and 2 on the road in Houston. When has Thad Young ever done either of those things?

Have you forgotten that LaMarcus Aldridge was an all-star every year he played for Terry Stotts and has made the Western Conference all-star team 5 years in a row? How many time has Thad Young, who has played most of his career in the weaker Eastern Conference, made the all-star team?

In his three seasons under Terry Stotts, LaMarcus Aldridge averaged 21.1/9.1, 23.2/11.2 and 23.4/10.2. In his two best years in Portland, the Blazers won 54 and 51 games Thad Young has only averaged more than 18 ppg once (2013-14 when PHI won 19 games) and has only average more than 8 rpg once (this year when BRK won 21 games). When Aldridge was at his best, POR was a 50+ win playoff team. Young puts up his best numbers when playing for one of the worst teams in the league.

Are you honestly claiming that Thad Young would help Portland more under Terry Stotts than LaMarcus Aldridge did?

Settle down, TLDRBNM. You're conflating "better player" with "better fit". I, in no way, am suggesting that Thad Young is a better player than Aldridge. I'm saying that his skill set fits better with this team, and the way this offense runs, than Aldridge's did. Certainly not "horrible" as you stated.

Was there ever a crowd? MM is the only one I can remember who said that all the time, and he's got a good reason for not being here.

I think BGD also was in that cult, but I think he was in a different branch of that group. His group was "make up some shit no one said, and join that group"

OK is this short enough? Better fit == more wins. Insert Thad Young in Stotts' system in place of LaMarcus Aldridge in 2104 and there is no way in hell we win 54 games and beat HOU in the playoffs.

I appreciate the effort. Your statement above is our disconnect. Vis-a-vis a particular offensive system, I don't necessarily agree. That's OK.

The only Blazer to consistently play both ends in this series.
