Confusing nationality with ethnicity is not going to work...dviss, you're turning Schilly's post into something it's really not. Need to exercise a sense of humor sometimes here and have these conversations without segregating the forum. When it's called for, I respect you pointing out racism but in this case, it's clearly not called for.

Yanks or Yankees is a term for all Americans used by the British.

OR Yank/Yankee is a term used by people in the South in regards to people in the NOrth.

OR it's a baseball team. It is NOT a term for white people specifically.

You've called my comments racist, idiotic, stupid you are not stooping to calling me yank, and continuing to be insulting. I have been patient and explained my point without having to stoop to name calling. Tell me who is harboring hate?

Fuck man... Are you really that dense?? I'm not calling you that at all.... I said that to illustrate a point... AND.... You just made my point for me.

You JUST agreed that if I was calling you "Yank" I would be attacking your race. You do the same thing when you refer to them as Frenchie.

Not sure it's just referring to white males, but ok, first I've ever heard of it.

Does that mean the Yankees name is a derogatory one?

You ask me to explain and I did. You definitely thought my post was racist didn't you? If you use Nate's response as a barometer, the term Yankee should not refer to a white man. But you called me racist for using it...

You people are so mixed up about this...

We haven't been to war with Australia, and one of my sisters neighbors is Australian and calls me that when I visit. Well, he says "you yanks and your cars" or "you yanks and your politics", not like "hey, you stupid yank, quit eyeballing my wife"

It's a name we call ourselves (in the sense of self labeling, not that I've ever referred to myself as one). I.e., "I'm a Yankee doodle", and other nations use it kind of as a funny nickname. See: Aussie or Brit.

can it be used in a pejorative manner? Sure. Does that mean EVERYTIME it's said it is? No.

Dude dviss you are trying to make this a war! You are confirming that you are calling me a yank as a term for people you are at war with.... You are saying "you people" you are crossing the line into it becoming a battle about racism. It wasn't. Look at the road you are going down.

DViss you are NOT taking away our right to make fun of other countries. It's not happening. Nope.

I'm going to make fun of the British for having bad teeth.

I'm going to make fun of Canadians for always apologizing for everything.

I'm going to make fun of the French for always surrendering and their women for not shaving..... areas.

You can't stop me! Other countries make fun of America ALL THE TIME.

The song Yankee Doodle, which in early versions was sung by British troops to mock colonial Americans.

Do you truly believe anyone from Australia or any other part of the Planet would refer to me as a Yankee? IJS

The term is older than the Revolutionary War.

All of this said, we are currently at war with the Clippers and that nut puncher Chris Paul will be on the bench for the remainder of the playoffs.

I know that. I asked the question because Australia was a colony from Great Britain. That would show why they would use that term.

If you went to England, there's a good chance you would be referred to as a Yank. It's a term for Americans. You can ignore that fact all you like, but you ARE a Yank by the very definition of what a Yankee is. You are from America, and if you want to take it further, you are from a northern state in the US.

    You are a Yank.
