I think Kaman had to shorten his due to the twitter character limit. I think it should have read: "Did anyone ELSE kill their own turkey for Thanksgiving?!" BNM
lol @ these tweets. I fucking hate twitter, fucking scourge on the planet. But meh. People say shit, it's America, get offended if ya want, or choose to ignore, luckily we can do that. Doesn't mean it's always right, or that you should though.
Blazers Edge has picked up the story, http://www.blazersedge.com/2016/5/1...-anti-gay-lgbtq-tweets-portland-trail-blazers
Sure, this is just boys will be boys. Nothing to see. Right? Every gay man was once a gay boy and grew up hearing this shit daily. Sometimes (straight) male bonding went beyond words. Hard to find a gay man who did not get the shit beat out of him growing up. And that's in this country. Not Nigeria. (For young lesbians male bonding was the threat, sometimes the reality, of "corrective rape".) Cultural differences affect taste in food, music, what holidays one keeps. Homophobia, sadly, is global. Nigeria does not currently have the death penalty for homosexuality although it is a crime punishable by imprisonment to be gay and there is no lack of extrajudicial murder. US evangelical Christians have for some years been connecting with evangelicals in Africa, Uganda primarily but also Nigeria, to pass the "kill the gays" bills. (And someone thinks Muslims are the problem? I could wish this kind of hate was just the product of one religion.) So far they have not passed due to international pressure. I know some supporters of killing gays have hoped that a new US President who would not put pressure on these countries to reject such law, may enable passing kill the gays bills. All in the name of protecting children, of course. We know what a good job the government of Nigeria has done protecting their schoolgirls. It was not lesbians or transwomen who abducted those girls. The government can't do shit for them but it can try to kill gays. Candidate Ted Cruz has among his leading advisers ministers who advocate kill the gays and Senator Cruz has spoken at rallies with them, rallies at which they have called for death penalty for homosexuality. Currently, Senator Cruz has pivoted more towards whipping up lynch mobs against transgender women, who already suffer very high rates of assault and murder. Apparently women transition for the sole purpose of raping little girls in public restrooms (although there are zero such incidents), just as gay men supposedly joined the military for the sole purpose of staring at straight soldiers in the shower. Billy Bean (the gay ballplayer, not straight A's GM, talked about being a closeted athlete. His partner only saw him play once. He told his partner not to speak to anyone in the family section, but his partner, a friendly guy, chatted with another players' parents. Afterwards, the other player, quite innocently, told Bean "my folks really liked your friend". Bean was so terrified someone would figure out this was more than a friend that he told his boyfriend to never come to another game. On his birthday, his boyfriend, a professional chef, prepared a special dinner for him. They were just sitting down to eat together when several teammates came to his door, with cases of beer, to celebrate Bean's birthday. He hustled his boyfriend out the back, hid all the food in cabinets, and let them in. In baseball there is an unwritten law not to go home until all the beer is drunk. They hung around for hours, while the boyfriend hid on the back porch, the dinner he had worked so hard to make special ruined. When his boyfriend died, Bean did not go to the funeral, did not tell anyone a friend had died, because he was so terrified someone might learn he was more than a friend. There are gay players in the NBA. By law of averages, there have to be. And they are hiding and living a lie because of attitudes and comments like this. Imagine, those of you who are married, having to pretend not to be, hide your wife, never refer to her, pretend to scorn her. So don't tell me this is a whole lot of fucking nothing.
I don't care what they do off the basketball court as long as it doesn't jeopardize a life. All I care about is what they do on the court. I can find much worse on twitter. Also it goes to show you shouldn't idolize athletes, they are not role models. Furthermore, why don't you delve this deep into political candidates? And to be fair, we are so politically correct now that we have become a bunch of bitches that can't handle a few words. Retarded, gay, black, mexican, 'Indian'. Really this has nothing to do with basketball - it won't affect their playing status nor their games really. At the VERY minimum this is highly off topic. Not to mention this is also slander, albeit with cause, you can't label someone homophobic based on some tweets (that were probably jokes).
Is it right? Hell no....but when I was coaching kids 10 years ago they used gay for every other word and no matter how much you'd try to correct them...it still went on. My son outgrew it probably freshman year but other kids still use it and now they're mid twenties...it's good to draw attention to these issues in context but the NBA playoffs is the wrong place to stir this shit up in my view... These guys grow up...if macho kids bash gays...they're also bashing anyone who is considered not man enough to hang with the jocks....yeah..it's that shallow and is clearly a cover up of their own insecure homosexual panic. We're not going to fix it on a msg board or basketball forum....that's for sure. You don't have to be gay to be beat up growing up...you might get beat up for playing the flute in the orchestra or even for being a chef...macho bullshit is macho bullshit and I don't think any of these current Blazers will go out looking to beat up homosexuals anytime soon. These old twitter posts are just wake up calls for them to see how stupid they can be.
The posts are from many years ago. What do people want to get out of this? An apology? An admission that he was young and stupid? He didn't make these comments recently.
