New York Daily News - The Nets are one of several teams who are trying to convince the Grizzlies to trade Pau Gasol. New Jersey has also reportedly shopped Vince Carter to several Western Conference teams.http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...ets_want_gasol/I am iffy about that deal helping the Nets. I know if Carter got traded it would definately help out Jefferson but you gotta remember that Gasol was out for 3 months with this injury and the better hope for him is that this will not give him a later reputation of being an injury prone player later in his career. I think it definately gives the Nets a low post option which is a good reason to trade VC but I wouldn't do it cause of what I just explained and that if you can't tell how much excitement Vince Carter brings to the fans, the Nets would be making less money with him not on New Jersey.
I think Gasol would be a great fit for them, Gasol is hte way to go for this big man-less team, besides Carter is probabely having second thoughts about this team right now due to their below .500 record. Gasol could really be the spark for them in the paint until Krstic comes back. I'm wondering, can Marcus Williams play SG?
Gasol would be a great fit in New Jersey. A solid big man who can play down low, just what New Jersey has needed since Kenyon Martin was traded. I don't understand why the Grizzlies would trade Gasol though.
There's no way in hell the Grizzlies would do this. Vince Carter? He can just opt out of his deal and leave over the summer. You don't trade SG/SF's for elite post players, you guys know that...
This would really help the Nets. Perfect trade for them. It would completely ruin the Grizzlies though. The Nets would finally would have an inside presence and could make the East finals.
If the trade was Gasol for Carter, the Grizz would obviously be getting ripped off. Vince Carter can't carry a team like Gasol has done in the past with Memphis. Carter has so much help in NJ and that is obviously why they have done so well in the past. Either NJ would be giving up something else good, or this would be a result of a demanded trade by Gasol.....
If the Nets could pull this off it would really help them. They desperately need a big presence in the paint and they have Antoine Wright or Eddie House to put in as a replacement for VC. This gets them a more complete team and IMO a team that can possibly make the Finals. Once they improve their bench a little this team could be great if this trade goes down. For the Grizz its good too. They would put Roberts at C Im guessing who is a promising young player and they get a hell of a dunk combo in Rudy gay and Vince Carter. They would be doing this more for salary though. If Vince Carter leaves after this season that is 2 huge expirings in VC and EJ giving them a butload of capspace to sign some good players.

I don't care if Rudy Gay and Vince Carter can dunk...Bottom line, this trade would leave the Grizzlies with nothing to build around and they wouldn't win...it would be a disaster.

They wouldnt win too many games this year but they weren't gonna make the playoffs anyway. This gives the youngsters a season to develop with a lot of playing time to get ready for the big time when they will be competitiors. With 3 great young players and a bunch of cap space this team could really turn it around in a season or two instead of hanging on to a slight hope of getting 7 or 8 seed in the playoffs for the years that Gasol will be there

In the NBA, if you want to win, you need a post player to build around. $30 million in cap space means nothing, there are no franchise changers available and all the NBA's young star talent is being re-signed. So you would probably end up spening most of it on a couple of #3 offensive options...maybe you could land a Mike Bibby or Chauncey Billups but it's not worth losing Gasol in the long run.

I think that if they search and use their money wisely they could come out with a better team than before the trade (if its done obviously). Warrick can be a great player in this league and he has hsowed it when Gasol has missed time. Rudy will be a good 15+ PPG scorer and Lowry could become a good PG. If they could sign one of the two guys u mentioned (Bibby or Billups), keep Gay and Warrick, and trade for one of the big name guys going around (KG or JO maybe?) this team would be great. There are so many different options for this team if they get this trade done and get all that cap space.

Hakim Warrick is simply going to be a #3 option during his career at best, I don't care about his numbers when Pau Gasol was out...someobody had to take on more shots and he did. Now that Gasol's back he's playing under 20 minutes and back to his usual role.

Or maybe they can land Durant or Wright or someone else in the draft. Then they can sign a better PG and a good big man in FA. This could be a great moce for them if they are aggresive in trades and FA. They could come out a much better team then before if they play their cards right.

Without losing their franchise player.

If they do get Oden, Durant, or Wright in the draft and keep Gasol their would not be enough space for everyvody to play. I would much rather take a chance at getting the best big man to enter the draft in like 10 years than keep Gasol and continue missing or barely making the playoffs every year. This is their chance to rebuild because eventually everyone in that organization and city is gonna get tired of losing and when they seriously want to start rebuilding it will be too late. I say take the risk because chances are it will pay off one way or another

There are plenty of shots to go around, I don't see how Lowry, Hakim and Gay would cause problems...every team has a couple players with their talent and their is no bickering. You don't blow a whole season and trade your franchise player for a shot at a big time draft prospect, it's ridiculous. Gasol has nothing to do with them losing, it's the rest of the teams youth and averagness. You keep Gasol and build around him, letting him go is the stupidest thing imaginable.
^He's held Hakim Warrick back, then again it was fratello's fault. If Jerry West did this trade, he would be chased out of Memphis

Pau is a great all star PF I think. Carter will leave anyway you will end up with nothing for him.If Nets can pull this of it be a great move for them. Don't see why Memphis would wanna do that though.
