I know this doesn't mean anything but whenever I watch Luis in pre-game shootarounds he cans 3s like they're nothing.

You think the NBA, after we embarrassed their refs in the first series, wanted to give us rest before the next....they want to take away any advantage they can

The P&L this year is going to be ~+$6.4M than if the Blazers paid the $14M.

It was the salaries of Verejao PLUS Roberts PLUS Mike Miller that got us over the minimum salary.

Varejao is paid ~$4.8M, Miller ~$1.4M, Roberts ~$1.4M or ~$7.6M

    $14M - $7.6M ($6.4M) is the P&L benefit for this year.

Verejao's 2016-2016 salary is $10.4M, but only $9.4M is guaranteed.

    $9.4M /5 = $1.88M cap hit for 5 years.

If you ignore the P&L consequences and look at the overall impact over 5 years, the Blazers paid ~$1.8M, or $14M - ($9.4M + $6.4M), for the draft pick.

However, as long as the Blazers are over the cap and/or don't need the $1.8M cap space the $1.8M can be thought of as amortized over the 15 player contracts at $120K each per season.

The $1.8M would cost the Blazers luxury tax penalty if they're over the LT. It could put them over the LT.

EDIT: I used 1/2 for the amount of salary owed the 3 players. It is prorated and could be a tad more or less.

EDIT 2: if the amount paid Varejao is $3.3M per the tweet cited by BNM, then the Blazers' P&L savings is even more. $1.4M more just for Varejao alone. There's likely more savings for Miller's contract and Roberts', too.

STILL shooting 100% for the Playoffs. 8 points on 3 shots.... not sure what else Coach can ask for. Plus he doesn't seem to have 'fear' like some other players have shown. Probably the best handle and passing ability of any SF on the roster as well.

Reminds me of Barton; he had no fear during his garbage time.

Meyers wasn't out at the time, so we had a full complement of big hard fouling goons.

Yeah, imagine if we had Meyers AND Varejao AND Kaman right now. That's 18 fouls worth of goondom to rain down on the Warriors.

As it is, we're limited to Kaman and he's showing his age. He's lost a step on his cheap fouls. He would have never gotten away with the trip on Henderson the way Varejao did. Although I do admit his blatant shove of Chris Paul, right in front of the ref and the cameraman last season, was pure comic theater. He wasn't fooling anybody with that one, but that's what made it so funny. He knew he would get caught, but it didn't deter him in the slightest. That right there is veteran leadership!

Like Griffin before him, Green us just too big and strong for the athletic bit very thin Aminu or Harkless. Griffin sometimes would drift outside but anytime he wanted to score inside, he did so almost at will. Green is overpowering or smaller defenders and then hits a wide open teammate when the help comes.

Vonleh from his shear size and strength might offer more resistance and make Green more of a scorer instead of facilitator which admittedly he would rather pass.

If we get down 10, I would experiment with Montero at SG. We could put whoever is at SF on Klay and I think Montero could guard Barnes and provide shooting.

I agree with some others that Vonleh matches up better with Draymond than Aminu/Harkless.
He plays great defense for such a young player. And the experience would be very beneficial for him.

If Bogut is in - then Davis should cover him.
Play Vonleh/ Plumlee on Green, CJ on Barnes, Lillard on Livingston, Harkless/Aminu on Klay.

In Game 6 against the Clippers in warm ups, he was draining everything. He and Pat were shooting against each other and Luis just kept flicking his wrist. Then he started backing up behind the line and finally from about 30' he had one go in and out. He just flipped the ball to Connaughton on and walked away laughing.

Have CJ front Barnes when he's posting up then have Boguts defender play the backside

Yikes, just 10? I think I'd wait until we're down at least 25 to start hitting panic buttons like putting in a kid who only played like one year of community college ball against a team that is the defending champs and just won 73 games in the regular season.

The dude is 6'7. We need size on the wings to be able to defend. Problem is, our big wings can't shoot. Except for Montero, plus he's another ball handler. It's a different look.

The problem with this idea is the refs won't give Montero and to a slightly lesser extent, Vonleh, a fair look when it comes to whether or not he legitimately fouled what ever player on Golden State he is guarding because he is a 'young and end of the bench scrub' in the refs eyes.

I mean come on, who do you think the refs will favor in a fouling situation? The guy who plays on the history making and defending champions team or the guy who is on a team who was a 'Did not Play' for most of the season?

If this wasn't the case and their was no bias with the refs I would suggest Alexander guarding Draymond. He has the strength to deal with Green as well as the height advantage to contest shots. Sadly we are not one of the darlings of the NBA so 'fair' doesn't apply to the Blazers.

If at any point we have Montero in, we'll know the game is out of reach. His rawness against the well-oiled machine we're facing would be disastrous.
