Re: Beckham benched! http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id...849&cc=5901<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>MADRID, Spain -- David Beckham won't play again for Real Madrid after announcing his departure at the end of the season for the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS. "He is not going to play any more. He will practice, but he is not going to play," coach Fabio Capello said Saturday at a news conference. Beckham announced this week he will not extend his contract with Real Madrid when it expires in June and is instead leaving for the Galaxy and a five-year deal. "The player's decision is to go to Los Angeles. He has always been a great professional, but a player who has such a major contract with another team ... we cannot count on him," Capello said. "I think one cannot have the same drive if one is already with another team." Beckham's spokesman, Simon Oliveira, said the 31-year-old midfielder would "continue to give his full commitment and professionalism to the club." "David is surprised at the quotes from Fabio Capello, as nobody from the club has informed him of their intentions," Oliveira said. "As far as David is aware, he has a contract for the remainder of the season and he remains dedicated to the club and its supporters." Beckham, who joined Madrid from Manchester United in 2003, has said he plans to leave Real Madrid after his contract expires June 30 and to join the Galaxy in August. The Galaxy did not immediately respond to phone messages early Saturday morning in Los Angeles.</div>That's F*cked up.
Re: Beckham benched! Thats weird. I dont follow MLS. But I thought Beckham was like the Kobe of soccer. He seemed to be the face of soccer, in the US atleast

Re: Beckham benched! LOLBeckham the face of soccer? the Jordan of soccer?try Ronaldinho...is the face of soccer..the Jordan of soccerthis is the same thing that happened to AII would be pissed too if my star player signed with another team for 225 million dollars

Re: Beckham benched! Not even. If you say that David Beckham is the Jordan or Kobe of soccer then you dont follow soccer. Even before announcing that he was going to LA Galaxy, Beckham didnt play most of the games. There are much better players than Beckham. He is almost 36 years old and after LA Galaxy, his career will be over. I am not a fan of Beckham and I never will be. This move to MLS was to start a career in acting for him and his wife Victoria Beckham. That is what he said in an interview. He also said he moved to MLS to promote the sport in the US.
Re: Beckham benched! This is a gimmick to get the sport of Soccer bigger in the US. Other teams are going to be doing the same thing as well.I don't have a problem with Beckham signing a new contract to come to America...and now Real Madrid is just pissed he won't resign.Beckham isn't the Kobe or Jordan of soccer now...but several years ago he was. He's still the biggest thing in soccer now even though he isn't playing much. He's still considered the best soccer play by many people, he just hasn't played a whole lot lately. The Euros just hate Beckham for some reason. I think it's because the guy seems like a cocky LA celebrity than a European player right now.
Re: Beckham benched! Beckham is mainly a pretty boy who's a good soccer playerbut definitely not the bestjust because he made a movie (a gay one in fact)...doesn't mean hes the face of soccerBrazil's finest...and Barcelona's finest
Re: Beckham benched! He's pretty good, I guess, I don't know anything about soccer, but benching him was just ignorant.

He is always on the cover on FIFA video games but that's not my point. Beckham's game has been downhill since joining Real Madrid.
Re: Beckham benched! Rhonaldhino is not as easily reconized globally. Rhonaldhino dissapeared in the World Cup. When we're talking about recognition and leading his team Beckham is the closest to Jordan in his respective sport.

Re: Beckham benched! He can't because his contract expires in August. Unless Real Madrid buys out his contract. The off-season is in August.
Re: Beckham benched! Damn, they must not have very good contracts in soccer if he can negotiate a new one without his old one being up. I was under the impression that it was over.I don't see any hostility in them benching him. They just know that he won't exert himself fully to make sure he gets his contract.

Then again, no Euro player has even been payed close to what Beckham is making. I thnk the Galaxy are going to regret this, he's not worth 250 Million dollars especially since his career is diminishing.
Re: Beckham benched! I don't think they'll regret it. They aren't paying him all of that money I don't think, but I don't know too much about that. It is LA though, them and New York can afford any 1 player that they want. They already sold 2,500 more season tickets, probably more now because it's been a couple days since that number came out. He'd be pretty popular here, the Galaxy will also sell more merchandise. I just hope these MLS teams don't overdo it. 2 or 3 European starts is good for popularity but if every team tries to get more then the league will be in trouble and fold like the other soccer league.
