For me it was a real tough decision between NY State of Mind and One Mic. Both songs have no flaws in them imo are both songs are examples of Nas at his best. I'm gonna have to go with One Mic though because the first time I ever listened to that song I got so many chills down my spine it was crazy. I also love the message in that song and imo it's one of the top 5 realest hip hop songs of all time.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>One time.. yeah.. yeah.. It would be One Mic by Nas, but I hate the dog barking and the annoying siren in the background. I think it was produced badly for the most part.Mine is New York State of Mind as well... maybe Road to Zion by Damian Marley if you can count that as hip hop.
I Shouldn't Have Done It - Slick Rickone of my favs, though I don't really know what my fav hip hop song of all time would be.

Yeah that first verse is just fire for NY State of Mind. Just nuts. as for One Mic, I still don't like the sirens in the first verse anyways, the rest of it [minus the barking] is pretty good though. One Love by Nas is a close second for me. Protect your Neck by Wu-Tang Clan is probably 3rd... yes.

Same thing happened to me when I first heard it, the lyrics are just scary. Listen by Talib is one of my favorites, might not be his best, but I love it. Also Doo Rags by Nas is in my top 3.
One Mic and NY State of Mind are the easy picks, but my favorite is actually Life's a Bi*ch which is also by Nas off of Illmatic.
