LHP - C.C. Sabathia (2-2, 3.81 ERA) VS. RHP - Sonny Gray (3-4, 5.84 ERA) Line ups to follow..............
Gray hasn't thrown well last couple of times out. If he's on the mark another tough assignment. Just hope that Sabathia will be the local boy who does well against the local team.
A fairly large game for this team as May 20 games go. A win gives the Yanks a chance to have a winning road trip and at least 3-4, not what you want but prevents a terrible 2-5 job.
The coolest thing I've ever seen in Oakland-Alameda, in June 68, ......no it wasn't: Catfish Hunter's Perfecto, not Vida Blue, gunning down hitters like it was the OK Corral, not Reggie's 'moonshot' HR's into- "Reggie's Regiments", (Bleacher Creatures), Not the Three-Peat Series Champs, tho' the Team was 2 yrs prior from doing so- certainly nothing Canseco or McGwire did, It was watching Joe DiMaggio, as bench coach; watching him simply walk, talk with players, just Joe being Joe the Bench C.....rub my eyes and think I've seen a ghost; or alien from another planet, a planet of my dreams....
^^^Absolutely Rob, I forgot that he was a coach. That had to be a great experience for all the players.
Finley had persuaded DiMaggio to take a position as Executive Vice President and consultant. DiMaggio needed two more years of baseball service to qualify for the league's maximum pension allowance, and took up the prior 2 mentioned jobs, as well as Bench Coach, from 68-1970. He barely missed a Series Ring by One more Year...........Oriole's got in the way.... I never could help but think seeing Joe in the dugout, was a good luck charm for the A's, an inspiration for that great 3-peat Team. He was a treat too see for Fans, and helped Finley get the Press he badly needed for his fresh move west. a couple flashbacks: With Rudi, Bando, Donaldson, Monday and Reggie: With McNamara on the steps "put me in coach, I'm ready to play, today"? Gov. Reagan-
I always had a soft spot for those Swingin' A's and Charlie O. Jeez, I remember DiMag being with them. The organization was kinda dynamic and refreshing especially for that period and Finley was the maestro ahead of his times. Cool pictures of Joe D. Nice post- a real treat. Thanks.
Tonight's starting lineup......... CF - Ellsbury (277) LF - Gardner (250) DH - Beltran (250) C - McCann (259) 2B - Castro (275) 3B - Headley (217) 1B - Ackley (152) SS - Gregorius (238) RF - Hicks (211) GO YANKEES!
Tex really is useless. Takes balls right down the middle for strike three with men on. In danger of going below .200 again.
...hard to believe that it actually took 41 games for the Yanx to finially get their first 3 game win streak of the year. ...Tanaka on the bump tonight...maybe they can crawl out of the cellar.
Tex needs to be put out to pasture. .196 3hr and 11 RBI on May 21st. He's batting .156 in May. It would be hard to find a worse everyday player in baseball.
