Jesus, it's not like he's going to be doing that all summer long, read the article... And it's way too early to write him off. I thought he showed promise in his very limited time. Maybe he didn't shoot real well but it's hard to shoot well and in rhythm when you play 2 minutes every other week.

I don't see much in that article that signals he's done with basketball. If he wants to go visit the team that owns his rights and maybe practice a little baseball, I say good for him. As long as they also fit training in, off-season is for the players to do their own thing, even if the situation is a bit questionable from our view. So, you won't see me blow any whistles on them. I'll give our Blazers the benefit of the doubt (until they show up fat when the regular season starts).

Also, like others in this thread have said, we have seen hardly any of Connaughton this season to see if he "belongs" in the NBA. It's too early to tell. I'll be looking forward to see how well he does this coming summer league.

Terry Porter played small forward at Wisconsin Stevens-Point.

Connaughton played at the pf spot because he is athletic, a very good rebounder and Notre Dame played with a small lineup. I wouldn't put too much into what position he played in college.

There just got over it time to get away from game and go relax and that going out relaxing with baseball players that find. It didn't saying he was playing I believe Neil made that point when they sign him. Believe he said that it will be all basketball at this point we will look it later down the road about baseball.

Wes Mathews used to box in the summer...PC will probably throw a couple innings every other day in the minor leagues...this doesn't mean he's done in Portland by any stretch

What kind of a sport has 121 picks per round?

He was picked in the fourth round of the 2014 draft, the 121 selection overall. The amateur baseball draft picks players out of high school or those who are eligible after a collegiate career. It's not like the NFL or the NBA where the cream rises to the top and pretty much most of the rookies will make the squad. Amateur baseball players are at different stages of development both athletically and technically, so the larger amount of picks betters the odds. They have to play in the minor leagues for years, but play at various levels for different periods of time. Draft pools are fixed by overall pick selection and the total amount of draft bonuses paid the previous year. Small market teams can trade "competitive market picks" but not outright slotted picks. Most draftees get paid very little outside of their original bonus and less than 10 per cent make the majors.

But it's a shitty boring game anyway.... so who cares, hunh? :emotions:

Can the mods edit the thread title since since Patty Baseball isn't actually playing baseball. He's hanging out with other minor leaguers enjoying tasty snacks, touring the facility and picking up slack.
