Brush with greatness: In 1984 I was living in West L.A. There were 5 roommates. One was this guy named Shane who never left his room. "He's writing his screenplay" was the refrain. Yeah, right. Like everyone else.

Turns out it was Shane Black and he was writing Lethal Weapon.

    Eddie the Eagle

    8.5/10

A very fun feel good movie based on the real life story of the British Olympic ski jumper.

I just watched a great movie ..American Splendor about Harvey Pekar the underground comic book friend of R. Crumb played by Paul Giamatti and his wife played by Hope Davis...R. Crumb was played by the guy who played Frazier's brother in the TV show...forgot his name..best movie I've seen in a long time for a gritty brilliant film

Riverman, I will definitely check that one out. I love Paul Giamatti. When my kids were little he first starred in a kids movie called Big Fat Liar. He was so funny. Then I really learned to appreciate him in Sideways. Love that movie. So bittersweet, funny, poignant. This scene is my favorite - ostensibly he's talking about wine but he's really describing himself:

Did you know that his dad was Bart Giamatti, the baseball commissioner?

Black Mass was surprisingly good. Hadn't wanted to see it because all the pics I'd seen of Johnny Depp in makeup looked silly. That and I generally don't much like true stories.

However, it was very good. Haven't seen a good mob movie in a long time.

Bought Sicario to watch again. Can't wait to see it on the big screen and hear the Atmos mix. Supposed to be pretty good, loved the movie when I watched it on the 65, should be fabulous.

I watched Kurosawa's The Idiot, it felt really long even though the studio edited it down to half the length it was originally. It was pretty good but because of those edits it was hard to keep track of what was going on. Toshiro Mifune was the best part like he usually is in whatever movie he's in.

Took my little cousin out to see Angry Birds. I thought it was pretty good. Nothing Pixar tier but still good.

The Finest Hours, didn't know nothin' bout it but it's a true story and the wife and I were all "fuccckkkkkk!!!!"

Doubt we will go on a cruise any time soon. Really enjoyed the movie, Capt Kirk is pretty good and so is new dumb Batman's brother. (Chris Pine and Casey Affleck)

Just watched Finding Fela, a Documentary on Netflix.

I've been waiting for a good documentary to come out on Fela Kuti for so many years. And this wasn't half bad. My heroes are all complicated and have major flaws. And that's Fela Kuti to a T. Fela wasn't just a musician; he was part Malcolm X, part James Brown, part Frank Zappa and more than little bonkers. And his drug and sexual appetites make Jim Morrison look like Donny Osmond.
Great movie about a great man.

I'll have to watch that soon. I watched the trailer a few weeks ago and it seemed intense.

Chris Pine was in another movie I enjoyed, Unstoppable.

He is pretty good. There aren't any Klingons in it and it is a true story but we liked it.
