I remember Jeter detractors in the droves on the old ESPN Boards after the Chemist arrived. A-rod this, A-rod that, much better player. My thought then was that Jeter was the God Damn Franchise and I was proven right in the end. The man was Mr. Yankee through his whole tenure, there isn't one position player on todays team who could bring 5 per cent of Jeters' daily contributions
^^^yup, I recall a lot of people insisting that Jeter should be the one to be forced to move to 3B to allow "the chemist" to play SS.
I think Jeter was somewhat UNDERRATED both as an all around player and SS particularly when his post season career is included......and THAT ain't cherry pickin'. lol,....hate to pick on old Honus Wagner but I still chuckle whenever he's ranked #1 as the greatest SS of all time...he played his whole career in the dead ball era and (IMO), he stays within that world amoung HIS peers. Of all the "geniuses" in the media, Jason Stark (ESPN) gets the credit for coming up with a tremendous article which comes very close to nailing down the greatness of Jeter. http://espn.go.com/blog/jayson-stark/post/_/id/952/ten-astounding-derek-jeter-numbers
