I'm up for it because I don't think they can rebuild without dealing him. Honestly, I feel good about Skjei, Graves and McIlrath filling 3 of the defenseman roles. McDonagh is not going to save this team the next 3 years. I believe Skjei can turn into that kind of defenseman. I've also seen McDonagh make a lot of bonehead mistakes that most of the fans don't call him out for. I would do Girgensons, Foligno, Buffalo's first for McDonagh and Glass. I think Girgensons can blossom into a 50 point, 2 way center. He was on his way but he's stuck behind Eichel and Reinhart now. Foligno would be a huge upgrade for a role player. Trade Nash to somebody for a middle to late first. Draft a forward and defenseman and let the rebuilding begin.
I don't think they're going to trade him, the team ran out of gas. They have to get rid of dead weight. I still think this core can get it done if they can add some players and subtract others
It's an interesting dilemma for sure. He's an above average player but like Dump said and we've all seen he does some Girardi-esque things which make you scratch your head sometimes. He's not an elite offense or defensive player, somewhere in the 25-30 overall range. I'm not sure I'd move him unless you're talking complete rebuild.
Toronto got the first pick. Thank God. Jets second. I don't see them moving that pick. However, Carolina and Edmonton I can see for sure moving those picks for a McDonagh. Perhaps take a center like Dubois or wing like Puljujarvi. You know there would be no way Torts would turn down McDonagh for the third pick.
I just have no confidence in Ranger management to make bold, necessary moves. I pray he is not the Jerry Reese of hockey!
People better warm to the idea of them dealing McDonagh. I think it will happen and it's smart. Sell high. If he gets another major injury, he could be headed the way of Girardi soon.
Once again the morons who work for HF prove they have no clue. http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articl...evalent-in-new-york-rangers-top-20-prospects/ Some of these scouting reports are idiotic. Halverson to start. He doesn't let a lot of pucks in. He played on a crap team in the worst defensive junior league. He stood on his head to get his team to the second round. He is a top 10 prospect in this organization for sure. McIlrath projects to a top 4 defenseman after last year and his skating is not goofy. Hal Gill sucked who they compared them to. He could never skate. Just another moron on that board overrating Russian prospects. You know how many Russian players are in the finals? One. As usual, when the going gets tough, they don't get it done in the later rounds other than the odd one.
The Rangers are starting to look a lot more like the Knicks the way they have done business the past 3 years. Trading all their draft picks away. Acquire old farts who are no longer anywhere near the level they used to be. I mean, when is Gorton going to do something? Trades take a while to setup but this asswipe should have least made one move by now.
Stepan for Brodin and a first, then deal McDonagh for the 4th overall and RNH to Edmonton. Done deal. Then get rid of Nash. It will take more than Brodin to get Stepan. He has no offensive skills.
I'd be pretty surprised if they dealt McDonagh, at least in the next year or two, but Stepan or Brassard could definately be in play this summer.
I see many complaints that a lot of the forwards on this team are lazy, overpaid, soft, play small, dont play tough, dont look engaged, care more about making fancy passes than going to the net and are just plain easy to play against. There is definitely some truth to that. Taking that into consideration, I dont think Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is the type of forward we should be targeting if we trade McDonagh. If we are trading McDonagh (which I dont think we should) Draisaitl should be the play. We dont need another smallish window dresser.
You take RNH and the 4th because with that pick you can draft a physical power forward in either Tkachuk or Dubois who are NHL ready physically and will be cheap for you for the next 5 years. Draisaitl isn't going to be cheap much longer and they aren't sending you the 4th pick with him. Plus, getting RNH will allow you to deal Stepan to fill other needs. Draisaitl also doesn't play an ounce of defense. His defensive game is non existent.
And RNH does play defense? The logic behind this deal just doesn't work in my opinion, for either side, but that's probably because "my head has been up my ass all season."
That is probably the case. The logic makes perfect sense. The best two defenseman in the system are left handed in Skjei and Graves. Staal most likely can't be moved. RNH has as much if not more upside as Stepan. He's roughly the same size. The 4th pick in the draft is most likely going to land them a franchise type, power forward. So you replace Stepan with RNH. Get a franchise talent with the 4th pick. You let Skjei replace McDonagh. Use Stepan to deal for what most likely will be a very talented, young defenseman. The deals make all the sense. This team showed they aren't close to winning any longer with Stepan or McDonagh and that they drastically need to change the team.
McDonagh to me is overrated by Rangers fans. However, his value is very high around the league. To me, there will not be a huge drop off between Skjei and McDonagh when Skjei gets a little more experience. If you look at Pitt's defenseman, they are hardly anything to write home about. Daley basically was considered garbage and he is playing 22 minutes for the Pens in the playoffs.
